Before I start if this fix has been done before then forgive me, I have searched this and other forums and can’t find anything.
Al
I have had a Heng Long Walker Bulldog with full metal kit now for two weeks, and with running it in long grass one of the gear boxes has stripped a gear, so I replaced both boxes with heavy duty ones.
Looking at the broken box later it appeared that the teeth were only just meshing, and the gear that stripped had just the tips of the teeth missing. In fact neither box meshed well and were very sloppy.
So this is my cure for sloppy meshed gears which improves the efficiency, smoothness and also quietens the box down.
Starting at the main drive gear, fit this one in place then the next in the train, if one can be moved while holding the other then there is too much play for these die cast gears, so what you need to do is file the bearing hole of the second gear, in the direction of the main drive gear by about 1/16"
