HL Truck Mods

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

I'm also waiting for the printer to arrive but you'll probably get yours first, Alwyn, since I didn't spring for the extra $100 for shipping but went the free shipping route. Then I'll have loads to learn. First I want to see if I can print other guy's designs, then try to learn to design things myself.

Hi Max, a good way to learn is to load some of the designs I've done into openscad and comment out the lines using two slashes //,
then remove the slashes selectively to see how the shapes are made up. You just have to make sure that the bracketed sections are kept complete otherwise Openscad won't render the design for example

difference () {

}

and

Union () {

}

You can do this before you get the printer so you can start to see how to create your own designs.

Have fun!

Yeah, I think I'm going to need just a it more instruction than that, but I'll look online and see if I can find a tutorial.

I've been looking around, but it's a lot of info to absorb. I'll get there, though. First project will be wheel rims. If I can get a single and dual rim with the 5mm hex for the Hwy 61 tires I'll consider the printer as having paid for itself. And I know someone has already done both single and dual for the tires from tankmodelbau so if I can learn to print those I'll also be happy. Once I get rolling I'll try stuff like the compressed air tanks for the sides of the SS100 truck. I'll have to ask Wibbs if he got any instructions with his and if not, how he learned to use it, if he didn't already know how to use a 3D printer. I'm sure just the assembly will be an education in itself. Do we know where the CR10 is made and what nation it was originally designed in? I suppose I should've asked that stuff before I bought it, eh? Live and learn, can ya dig it? 8) :/

Been looking around a bit more and I think I'll pick it up pretty quick. As a machinist I deal with x-y-z axis stuff on a daily basis so once I learn the commands I'll be all set. I'll probably find it harder to download the software than learning to use it!! >:<

So I went to the electronics store looking for LEDs and as usual I came away mad and without the stuff I need, so now I'm off to educate myself about LEDs and how to match resistors to them. Now that's something I might start a thread on if I can't find one already in place.

Bit of a return to the board for me. Combined the HL truck with a Bruder Land Rover to make an FFR version. More as a can it be done project but really pleased. Had to cut down the prop shafts a lot but it fits just
