Newbie Help!

Post by JTS »

Hi All

I have a question which I hope someone will be kind enough to assist me with

I have metal front hatches to attach to my HL tiger 1 are the plastic hatches glued onto the body or are they a molded part of the main body?

So is it better to try and cut/slice them off or the "bore them out from underneath?

I hope all you modelling wizards haven't pull too many muscles from such a severe bout of laughter!

Many Thanks for any forthcoming assistance/advice

they are moulded as part of the main body

as for method of removal  I drilled the ones out on my first tiger with a wood bit and then used a half round file to get the holes to size other people used the sewing thread method to cut them out and other folk have dremmeled them out, if you use a dremmel the plastic is crap and has a low melting point

Hi BREL

Thanks for the advice I was thinking about using a dremel but I will probably bore them instead

Hi Jim ,
Yer I did the same method  . You will notice on the underside of the top body there is the fixing points for the metal hatches . As a little extra I fitted the small lip round the hatch hole to . All with a small plastic bottle sliced up !

If you go for the thread method, use dental floss, it is much more resilient and generates the heat required to cut, much faster.

Hi Jim , Thanks for the coment . If you want me to run throught the method just PM me. Ive altered more than I can remember on my late war Tiger1 HL tank . Ive done all the usual corrections , barrel length , gun mantlet , removed the incorect convoy light and ariel tube , moved the turret back/centerlised the turret , added turret protection ring the list is endless . Some ideas from books and research but also a lot from posts on here . They are a very frendly and helpfull bunch on here  :)

Thanks LTM

For you kind offer, one problem I do find is there seems to be never any instructions with the parts I buy and also newer HL Tger 1 seems to have some slight differences so the web based instructions aren't always accurate for my tank.

But I definitely agree with you about the site's members they share the experiences and their knowledge most willingly, a great bunch of guys(/gals?).

I am about to bore out my first hull hatch so fingers crossed and thanks again for the advice

Rob G :  your idea with dental floss sounds very proffessional so I think I will leave that for the next Tiger I do but thanks for the advice

Hi Jim ,
My HL Tigers probaly 3 years old , its the sound and smoke metal gear version . When you look on the underside of the top body were the hatch fits to the tank on mine there is two lumps and a horizontal strip . The hatch hinges should have two holes in them . These fit onto the two lumps and the back of the hinge bracket touches the horizontal strip .

All the best Littletankman
