LRDG truck conversion

Post by midlife306 »

Hi John, from looking at a few pics, I think you may find that the HL truck is a bit big to convert to a LRDG. It looks a similar size to an Opel Blitz which is definitely too small to use the HL truck running gear.
There is a thread below called HL truck mods with some useful info, especially if you have a 3D printer. There's a thread for a 6 wheel drive conversion, someone has even made a Duck already.
The world is your oyster mod wise, the limiting factor is the scale width.

I'm not going for a accurate looking one just one that looks like one a bit like the firefly based on a heng long hull

I've always wondered if the cab from one of the Highway 61 GMC trucks could be used as a basis for the Chevrolet trucks that they used. You'd have to build the bed from scratch, but it might be worth looking into. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1946-GMC-TRUCK ... 2529334031

Hi, here's some stuff that might be useful

I don't think the track width would be that far out, you may have to adjust the wheelbase. It would be a fun build to do so good luck.

Here can be found the detail specs
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/g ... -Truck.pdf

Looking at the 1.5 ton body then the track width would be slightly narrower than the HL truck, but with the fat tyre conversion for the desert then it wouldn't look out of place. If you scale the blueprints to the track width of the HL truck (using pcpaint) and work from that it should look good!

Hi John
I know in the past several rc conversions of this truck by several modellers in the past
Most of the pic's have gone due to photo bucket ..madness

The Highway 61 chevy truck
which is 1/16 scale has been used do the chevy LRDG raider
It's not a cheap truck here in the UK £130 but I'd you do toy fairs or swap meets
I've seen then as low as £25 unboxed

It's a beautiful die cast ..full detail including engine .. and because it's all metal
It's easy to modify for full rc
