Heng long based scratchbuilit 6x6 truck.

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

Lee,

This is the bed I built by combing the 2 single ones. I will have a canvas cover so will put a mending plate inside. I cut strategically so it looks reasonable including the existing wheel wells which now double as mud guard.

This is looking very good Mike. In this case the original tires and rims look right at home. I plan on making a canvas cover for mine to hide all my electronics. I'm assuming some steel support rods and a canvas cover?

That's very simple and realistic. I will be doing something similar to mine. I'm considering using some wood for the sides that I'll stain and weather and then the posts and frame. Image

That looks great Michael, perfect fit with the cargo bed too Image

Carl I'm also making a canvas cover for the rear but im planning on it being removable so I've been working on some stowage and have made 3 wooden storage crates from balsa wood which house the 2 speakers and sound box , I've added a pic of where I'm at with it so far Image

Whoa that's awesome. I plan on using the same electronic setup so this trick with the crates to go nude everything is fantastic! I was going to make some cardboard boxes and drape a thin painted tarp over them to make the stowage bits hide the electronics. This is even better

Carl, I made the crates so the speakers fit snuggly inside, I drilled a load of little holes in the lids of them for the sound to escape a little better, if you look at page 1 of this thread near the bottom there's a pic of the truck and trailer from above and you'll see that I purposely left an hole at the front of the cargo bed floor while making it so I can feed the wires through a channel into the cab so they are all hidden

Cheers, Lee.

Damn, Lee, those wooden crates are terrific! I like your rope handles but I still want to send you some of this rope from syren shipmodel company to play with. I can just tuck some in an envelope and send it like a letter, so PM your address, please, and I'll get a bit in the post. I think once you try it you'll love it and find all kinds of uses for it. The guy makes it in all different colors and thicknesses and it's not at all expensive. I think every single tank I have has some on it.

Here's some on a Jagdpanther, before I learned that should be a cable, not a rope. Doh! ;) :/

The more I look at your photos the more impressed I am. That chain at the back is great. And the box between the guy's feet is great, too. This truck is really coming together. I see you replaced the hoops with bowed tops, they look perfect. Can't wait to see the canvas top. I want to do a smaller top on a 4x4 with the stock bed/box so I'm watching closely with much anticipation.
