New Member from the UK

Good Evening Chaps,
New to RC tanks but not new to RC as I have truly enjoyed RC model flying. Not new to armoured vehicles either having been in the South African military serving with 61 Mechanised back in the day. This hobby has really grabbed me only recently truth be told that is 1:16 scale. Ive loved building model kits mostly of tanks and aircraft since a kid, been rather active in Wargaming since coming to the UK and now seeing these bad boys. Modelling experience complete with building kits and then having a boat load of fun with RC, well it cant get better can it.

As I say new to RC tanks in terms of the models available. Of course I know the Tamiya kits, as their 35th scale stuff is legendery but like everything Tamiya it comes at a price. The Tamiya RC stuff is what caught my eye, man thats cool but that eye watering price of over a £1000 for an RC model...OUCH!!! I have always loved WW2 German armour but the modern tanks is where Id really like to go. So searching around I came across makes such as Heng Long, Taigen, Torro etc all of which seems to be top stuff certainly in recent years and current. Upgrading of part etc look absolutely brilliant. So to cut this short Im looking at modern MBT's and very much have my eye on the M1A2 and or the Leopard 2A6 which Ive seen new models from Heng Long. Now the big question where to go to?

I must report I have been desperately disappointed in the complete lack of response from TankZone here in the UK. I have emailed twice and left numerous messages on the contact number. As I'm new to this I just had questions on the two new kits from Heng Long shown on their website. All I wanted to know was to clarify what the Ultimate edition would include as per the descriptions namely the M1A2. The basic kit description and even the pro edition were clear enough. I would definitely like to go with the metal options of gearbox, tracks, Sprocket and idler whhels and certainly the road wheels with suspension arms. Not a thing in reply. Thats why I figured well surely there must be forums to investigate more information. Straight away it seems TankZone is dubious at best. So now Im looking at other options even looking in Germany. Came across on Youtube Heng-Long-Panzer.de

So I hope to chat with many of you here and get to know whats the best to go to. Id really like to hear what you chaps make of the other makes of RC tanks as an alternative to Tamiya and really enjoy this hobby.

Many thanks for the warm welcome. It looks like that here in the UK for what Im looking for, HayaUK ltd offers the same if not better than Tank Zone and has had good feedback. What do you chaps think?

Great to have you along here Bud, please feel free to add your experience and advice whenever you can.
Tanks dont sink, or fall out of the sky, they move slower, and are much more predictable in their actions than other RC alternatives.

if you want to go and see what we get up to at meetings and also find out the best way to upgrade a tank, spending a few hours at a meeting can save you hours of typing and posting.

Welcome to the forum Mike and great username. An old rugby mate of mine who I played with when I was over in London spent some time in a ratel in Angola getting shot at by Cubans. I had no idea about that conflict at the time and I was always very interested to hear a few of his stories over a pint or two. It's an interesting part of history that we don't hear enough about in my area of the world.
