Heng long based scratchbuilit 6x6 truck.

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

Lee, I hope you'll forgive me for a minor hijack here. Perhaps it's time to start a thread about the SS-100? Anyway, I just wanted to share this with Wayne. You have a very good start, Wayne, and I can tell you've studied this truck, so take a look at this, my start on an SS-100. Now I need the body, so can you start a thread on your SS-100 build and show how you've gotten such a good start? If you watch ebay you can sometimes find a used Highway 61 truck and get some proper wheels. They need just a touch with a file to be a nice tight fit on the 5mm hex axles, and I'm hoping 5 minute epoxy will stick to the ID of the rim and form a hex strong enough for light duty.

Carl, I feel really bad about hijacking Lee's thread like this so I've started a general HL truck thread and you can see more on those wheels here

My apologies to you, Lee, for getting so far off the topic. I love what you're doing with your truck and trailer. What kind of material is that you're using on the trailer. I like the looks of it.

Hi Max,

I got the canvas material from eBay, it's actually olive drab military material, I bought a square meter for £3.99 plus 99p p&p,

Are the tires on your trailer the same as the truck? The rims are different, though? That trailer looks great and I really want to do a trailer myself, but I'm thinking a water tanker. But, that's about halfway down the list of truck projects I want to do, and it's a rather long list. :/ :haha: :O

Hey Lee,

Started my 6x6 so have couple of questions for you.......

When you take the front transfer to add on to the rear one, how did you keep them together ? I know that they kinda snap together, but I notice that the screws doesn't quite reach anymore as the cover has a flat spot for the screw to go all the way in. Did you use longer screws, or did you sand down the mount hole and drill it out so that the screw can reach the other side ?

For the mending of the frame, I had originally thought of using some kind of core (like the bumper piece that extends into the frame) but upon closer examination, I realize that the suspension mounts between the two rear sets are butted up against each other, so there is no room to mend it from inside the C channel frame. I had originally think that I have to cut from the 6x6 frame, and also the donor frame, but now I realize I could just leave the 6x6 frame, and make new holes on the frame and mount the front end of the rear set to it by drilling new holes, then I can mend the two frames in between the suspension mount of the rear set since there is room inside the C channel frame there.

Thanks for all the information so far and the inspiration.

Hi Max,

The tyre's are the same but this time I used the original rims from the truck, I cut away the outside lip of the rim so it's flush with the tyre and it sits in between the 2 channels that are left

Cheers, Lee.
