There are two companies that make Tiger/Panther engines one in metal and very expensive the other in resin though these are both in 1/6 scale if I get a spare moment I will post some pictures

Well...I think I am in big trouble now...

I couldn't stand it knowing those Maybachs were on eBay and after a couple of hours of serious twitching, I used the money I had set aside for the wife's Mother's Day gift and bought one.

If anyone has some quick ideas for my survival tomorrow, please feel free to pass them on. At least I already took care of me Mom's gift!!!

David, was it the verlinden one you went for?
That kit is really good, I may buy a spare for when I get a tamiya tiger 1!

It's mothers day in the US tomorrow, the UK's one was the 22nd March.

When you get the kit, would you post some pictures of the parts and your build?

Hi Rik.

Wanted to get a quick reply in while my arms are still functioning. And yes, Mother's Day is tomorrow in Canada also. Wonder how brunch will go with my jaw wired...

Yes, it was the Verlinden 1:15 Maybach I bought. The engine will be ever so slightly too large for the 1:16 scale HL, but should not be readily noticable. Same for the engine compartment assembly, but for that it think it will be better to have a few whiskers worth of too much to work with than not enough. I find it easier to trim than fill if given the option.

That should leave just the two rad and blower compartments to think about. If I go for full detailing there, I feel compelled to activate all the relevant hatches. On the other hand, if these hatches stay sealed, not as much detailing would be needed under them.

Sure glad this isn't a full scale project in some ways!

Once I get into the full rework of this Tiger, I will start a thread in the appropriate section with photo documentation and hopefully the project will be finished before I retire.

I feel the same for my KT. It all comes down to space though. Im going to attempt to add the ammo racks in the back of the turret and use the rounds to counter balance the aluminium barrel. I think that'll do for under hatches though. The front hatches will probably open, but be for the power switch and charge port.

I look forward to seeing your build David! Maybe we'll start a new trend of sticking maybachs in Tigers! lol  ;D

Hello Rik.

For your KT, are you considering detailing the exterior as a late production vehicle? If so, you would really have no choice in needed the late production Maybach. However, if you are going to work up an early or mid-production KT (ones where the Tiger I Maybach was still being used, then there would be no problem with you adding field mod changes to it that would have been done by the operating unit and be able to install the scale Tiger I Maybach.

At the time of the Ardenne Offensive, not all KT's would have been late models. Available vehicles would have covered the complete production spectrum.

Im going to go for an early henschel. It'll either be an Ardennes or Normandy one. I know two henschels were confirmed in Normandy, so I may do one of those, one being "104" at Bovington. I'm thinking of being a bit liberal, probably picking a not overly photographed machine.

daviddunlop ....You should consider casting the engine before You use it....I am interested in a copy and I'm sure others would be too...It'll offset your costs... ;D

My Verlinden 1:15 Maybach was waiting in the mail when I got home from work today. A VERY impressive little kit! And surprisingly heavy. The engine block has been cast in two solid pieces, rather than the more typical hollow shell approach. Still a lot lighter than the diecast metal alternative.

I have not read the assembly manual for the kit yet, but did notice in the packages that three air filters are provided, so I suspect the kit will allow either the early 210 Maybach with three filters or the later 230 Maybach with two filters to be built for the Tiger I.

Have to stay home tomorrow to take delivery of a new dishwasher. Wonder if I should play with the Maybach or install the dishwasher?
