How to make TARR smoker proportional on Taigen board?

Post by Blackadder123 »

As you can see in the picture below, the TARR smoker I bought has the standard HL/Taigen plug along with 4 unconnected wires that go through a certain electronic board. Now I speculate that it's that board that regulates the proportionality. Does anyone know if the smoker can be made proportional with a Taigen board and what I have to modify?

On a side note, I've tried both the standard HL oil and model steam locomotive oil and both seem to produce very little smoke. Is baby oil a big improvement? And how come this "Mega steam" is allegedly so much better?

The picture:

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi, There are 4 different "TARR" Smokers, the "Tarr" 3 and 4 are Proportional specially for the Heng Long and Taigen Control boards,
The Tarr smokers 1 and 2 are for the IBU boards,
I hope that helps.

The one I've got is the TARR 4. I've tested it on a tank and there seemed to be no visible proportionality. Don't I have to do something with the black, tape-covered board for the proportionality?

Instructions are on the product page

http://www.rctankelectronics.com/store/ ... _Unit.html

Regarding little smoke, the units are factory tested with paraffin oil the oils you have tried are water based and lighter than parraffin oil so takes a while to flush out.

When I tested the petrol scent megasteam it took a good 20-30 minutes before I could tell the difference and that is just change of scent on the same product.

Oh right, thanks tankbear! Seems like a little soldering is all that's required for the proportionality...

Do you reckon that water based oils are a lost cause? Are Megasteam oils paraffin oil based? Could you recommend any good alternatives to Megasteam that work well with the Tarr? Being in Germany, I'd have to pay double for any Megasteam that's shipped, lol

The water based ones are fine, megasteam is also water based. Model train or boat smoke oil should work fine in the TARR unit. I’ve tried baby oil and it does work but smoke is less visable and smells unplesent if your indoors.
