Interesting "discovery" proportional motor control.

Hello all. Whilst messing around recently with servos I ended up playing with a continuous rotation servo. Basically it rotates in either direction as opposed to the usual 60 or 90 degree arc.

Obviously compelled to take the thing to bits and found what amounts to a very small esc that gives proportional movement by stick or pot on TX. As a servo is simply a motor I soldered the esc to a spare turret rotation motor and, hey presto, proportional movement. I think this could be very useful for people to play around with e.g.. elevation and so on?

Couple of things to note: Can't imagine it will take much power but turret (HL) motor seems fine. Also if you do this and the motor starts running by itself there is a very small pot on the "gubbins" (tech speak!) from the servo that can be used to trim it.

I found out that they sell 2 inch "Visaton" speakers which came as a surprise to me.
I thought their smallest was 3 inches.

Mick as Dava is using a Heng Long Turret Motor I am not so sure it wouldn't work with a Heng Long control board.

Their smallest would appear to be 2.5", and I also tried looking under 'miniature speakers'. Mind you, 2.5 in could be very handy indeed
By the way, thanks for the Union Jack info. I do have a hazy memory of a discussion on Radio 4 once about the distinction between 'The Union Flag' and the 'Union jack'. I think you've shone a little light on that topic too.

Mick you are right about using the Heng Long turret motors in other boards,
I have one of my PZ4s turret motor plugged into an ASP board this board has the advantage of having a separate socket for the Turret motor rather than sharing the Heng Long 8 pin socket.

Only tried on spare motor, not in tank. Used it connected to a 10 ch RX, not HL board so not sure if it will work with RX18.

Mick, as I've tried it you would get proportional rotation. Not really tried anything else with it got mine off eBay 2 for about £16, uk seller.

That is exactly how my turret on the Abrams is setup.

Using a continuous rotation (360) servo attached to the ElMod. It is a simple programing step to operate it as an external ESC giving me full proportional control of turret rotation.
