For a bit of light reading last night I was looking through " Combat History of SWHWERE PANZERJAGER Abteilung 653" and came accross 2 in the field conversions.
The first is a Berge Panther hull with a Panzer IV turret. This was used as a command tank, and as the turret was fixed, in a Stug role.
The second was a captured T34 that had been turned into a Flakpanzer. The turrets been removed and a quad 2cm AA guns attached. The armoured turret had been made from the angled parts of a destroyed Spw.
Both these vehicles were used by the unit from March 44 till the end of the war. There are several photos of them and even some colour plates.
Lots of food for though there for a next year project. The Panther-PzIV hybrid looks fantastic.

Re: Conversions
653 also used a VK4501 as a command tank
They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
