How to remove battery box from plastic hull?

Also, any recommendations on how to make the Pz 3 waterproof? I plan on hot gluing all the holes shut and perhaps gluing a strip of rubber onto the edges of the lower hull as a seal..

An effective and useful way of adding stiffness to any Plastic or Abs Hull is to cut to shape a piece of 3mm scrap Plasticard to act as a Bulkhead between the Gearboxes and the Control board,
This is a modification that works on almost any Tank.
This will not only stiffen the hull but keep grease from the electrics.
Get a Heng Long Panzer 4 Aerial Trough and cut it in 4 pieces,
Two for now and two for the next build,
Superglue one piece of the trough Vertically, (slot side facing inward) against the hull side, between the gearboxes and the control board and the other piece exactly opposite,
Slide the plasticard into the slots of the two pieces of channel DO NOT GLUE, and all you need do is make a hole for the power cables of the gearboxes to go through and you now have a removeable bulkhead that cost pennies and is easy peasy to make.
It takes less time to do than it does to type out this missive.

On the subject of attaching the magnets, I think most people mount them to the posts that the screws go throught. All you need to do is remove the thickness of the magnets.

When I mount mine, I use 2 magnets on each post, one upper and one lower. I cut the raised ring off of the upper post, then remove the thickness of the 2 magnets (around 3mm) from the lower posts. I use the Gorilla brand super glue and accelerator to attach the magnets. Out of all of my tanks, I think I've only ever had a couple of magnets pop loose. The 2 magnets make for a really strong bond. My Pz IV has all metal running gear and you can pick it up by the upper hull.

Unless you want that sick feeling of Picking up your pride and joy with one hand only for the glued magnets to fail.

I guess you could do it that way. My thought on using magnets and cutting out the battery box is that it saves me from having to flip the tank upside down to change the battery. Just pick the upper hull off, set it sideways and swap the battery pack. It's a lot easier that trying to balance it on it's side.

I've gotten a couple of HL tanks that came with the Li-Po packs and they are in a hard shell pack the same size as a regular pack. Haven't came across any of the longer packs yet.

Hi all,

I plan to convert a plastic hull Pz3 to one with magnetic lock so I can use standard size Nimh and have more room inside. Does anyone have any suggestions on what method I should use to remove the plastic battery box?

Here within my HL M1A1 build thread is how I removed the battery box, reinforced the chassis and installed magnets. It's not the only way but may give you some ideas.

Yes, I have four of those packs now, all standard size. And the actual battery is only about half the size. I have a feeling it's the three cell 11 volt ones that are bigger.
