Parts Compatibility between 1/16th Vehicles

Post by rampage »

Good afternoon!

I'm looking at building my first 1/16th scale tank. I've had a few in the past--a HL M26 Pershing and a HL Tiger I. But I ran them as they were and didn't really bother to upgrade or modify them in any way.

But now I want to build something and really make it 'mine'.

I'm thinking about starting with a 90mm GMC M36 using the following components.

Heng Long M4A3

Mato M10 upper hull
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mato-1- ... .51.RawALG

Nick Aguilar M36 turret/90mm M3
https://vqwarbirds.com/product/nick-agu ... rsion-kit/

Are these components compatible with eachother? I've ehard that Mato/IMEX, Heng Long and several others are just different levels of 'premium' grade of basically the same brands. So I'm thinking the parts should be compatible?

I'm also thinking about building an M4A3(76)W VVSS with the Heng Long M4 and the IMEX T23 turret.

Any input would be great!

Thanks in advance!

As many will tell you where there's a will there's a way...

All parts if not exactly compatible - will work with some efforts on your part.

The M36 that I purchased from MichealC here on the forum has a Heng Long lower. Mato metal bogies and metal tracks.

The Vandra m10 resin hull

Nick Aguilar Jackson turret you mentioned.

All works seamlessly but it took some effort and skill in his part to make it all work.

I'd say go for it. Assemble the parts needed and as you start to build you can ask any questions here on the forum and we will surely help out as best as we can!

That's what makes it fun and rewarding.Image

Have fun

Oh, there's a resin M10 hull? I hadn't seen that! I though the Mato metal hull was the only option!

Is there a link to that resin hull anywhere? :D

G'day Mr Rampage, be a nice idea to go into the introduction section and make yourself known to us all.
Just a few words of who you are, what you are into and suchlike.

A lot of the Taigen and Heng Long tanks are exactly the same, but not all, so it depends on the tank. The Tigers are pretty much exactly the same and you can convert a heng long tiger upper hull to work on a Taigen lower, adding the lift off top feature simply by installing the clips to the posts on the Heng long upper hull. The T-34s are a different story. There's pretty much nothing on a Heng Long T-34 that will bolt to a Taigen T-34, including the gearboxes. But, like Carl said, where there's a will there's a way. Not long ago I sold a Taigen 75mm Sherman to a guy that promptly modified the upper and put it on a Tamiya Sherman with HVSS.

And Herman is definitely right that you'll receive a much better reception if you post a thread in "Introduce Yourself". We all like to hear about how a new guy got into the hobby, and a general location will help those that want to help you. For example, I'm in the US so it's difficult for me to help guys in the UK because of the insane postage rates, but for the guys in the US I'm always willing to help out by opening up my parts box when a guy needs a little somethin', and I usually even pick up the postage. Of course, I'm not alone in that and most of the guys here are extremely helpful and friendly. In fact, there are a few that make me look like a miser! :haha:

And most of us are on a first name basis so what can we call you besides the user name? I'm known as Max on this forum, and Crius at RCU, but the name on the B.C. is Gary. Take your pick. @)

So welcome aboard and I look forward to hearing about your progress.

I did wonder myself, but I believe he's a pal of tread and blarney ;)
That's good. Had me worried. :haha:

By the way, I love the new signature! I was thinking of doing "I'm only here for the bytes"

I noticed there is still a lack of an introductory thread.

The best signature I've seen so far is from a guy at RCU and it says, "If a zebra loses a race with a lion, nature does not award him a participation trophy".
