Tracks coming off...

Post by bikerdude »

Hi all, got a problem with my sons Tiger I. The tracks come off within about 2 mins of him starting to use it. The tracks are the standard heng long plastic set, no extra or fewer links than were fitted when we got it. When he 1st got it the gearboxes were the weakest link and the tracks stayed on fine, I upgraded the gearboxes to metal, and it was fine for the 1st few times, then the tracks came off more and more and now it's pretty much unusable. Has anyone got any suggestions to stop this happening as he's very disappointed as mine and my other sons cope pretty much fine and he's left out.

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

I had a tank where the tracks (plastic HL) detached themselves when the tank reversed on grass. It was very frustrating. Being new to RC tanks at the time, I was completely mystified by this annoying phenomenon. A tensioner system, and metal tracks eventually resolved that problem. Tensioner systems can sort many track retention issues. Have a look at the Henntec system.

To get you started, here's an earlier discussion of the tensioner topic. While some pics are now blocked on many archived threads, thanks to the recent development of those money- grabbing picture hosts, Photobucket, using pic collections as a form of ransomware.. :-< you should still follow the thread.

Thanks, I can't see a button to make it come up in English, but looking at the photos I get the gist of the idea. Will be something to look at, but at a later date I think, already spent far more on this than I ever intended. Was only supposed to be getting 1 for me to play around with.

A buddy had a Panther that did the same think. Checked everything I could think of, no good. Problem wound up being the steering trim was not centered. Corrected this and no more problems!

Thanks, I've checked that and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I'll be honest I'm tempted to put some tape around the rear idler to make it a little bigger and give it a bit more grip, see if that helps at all!
