Tiger 1 & SPare Track links on front hull

Post by Steenv »

Hi there
Came over theese different photos of the Tiger 1, where one picture have to metal arms to lock the space tracks links to the front hull.

Any one know that story of why there was two arms holding the spares, and not the one arm that we usally see on the rc tanks.

Also I mean that from the Henschel factory, no additional track links was originally installed on the tigers leaving for the field, but that was adapted from af field modification to future production series. Can anyone confirm this, preferable with some documentation  ;D is any

cheers

heres a couple more 503 tigers with extra track bars fitted, it was  more than likely a field modification, as for the two bars holding the spare track in place maybe they saw it as being a safer option than having just one bar fitted..........

common sense, panzer4 and 3 s have narrower track, and its quite stable with one bar. Whereas tiger had much heavier and wider track, if you had one bar, you can imagine the track slaping noise while its moving on field. Therefore, (i think). Two bar is to further stabolize the tracks and mimnimizing slaping noises.

It was a field modification that was very much frown upon.
The tigers were made from face harden steel any welding destroyed that hardening making the steel easier to penetrate.

you are of cause correct Bob, no Tiger left the factory with these brackets attached this was purely a field mod depending on the Abteilung the Tiger served with depended on which type of bracket they attached if they attached them some Abteilung didn't use this method
They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
