Re: Why do I like this hobby......
As the late lamented (by some) General Alpha would say: "Carpe diem, boys!"...but meaning it should be more like 'Carpe Panzer!', or "Carpe a double dram of malt, boys!" About buying tanks he would also say, in all probability: 'Caveat Emptor!"
But, as eccentric as the General was, the hobby itself gradually creates suitably deranged successors.
So, beware Mick, or being 'plastered' might become the default state
You'll often see a bottle lurking somewhere in a scratch builder's thread photos! and those of the tank enhancers too.
In any event as the weekend is nigh, it's so its a case of
'Slainte!,' Capt. Hilts, Mick, Painless (with grotesque scary sergeant) and others...and let's salute this lunacy in style! Cheers!

I think I'd have to take my slim chances against the likes of Mr Wittman versus the 'Sarge' ...... Mr Painless there's just no telling what this guy's capabilities are with that look on his facePainlessWolf wrote:Good morning,
Replace that picture of Wittman ( if you are of an Allied bent ) with this fellow. His ceaseless glower will urge you on to greater feats of tank building frenzys. ( He's about to get a wine bottle to either imbibe from or to smack pesky enemies upside their helmets with )
regards,
Painless

Wow I so love this hobby

Good afternoon,
As 43rdR&R ( stands for Rough and Ready no doubt ) noted, I too keep a bottle of 120 proof comfort close to hand for those days ( of which there are more than one or two ) As for Crazy Joe, you guys know that I have offered many times to do a repaint and set him on the straight and narrow but it will not be heard of on this Forum so beware, German Panzer Aces. There's a drunken, nut case on the loose and the U.S. Army ( in all it's infinite wisdom ) just gifted him a TD with a 90mm on it. Once Joe saw it was topless, it was love at first sight.
regards, Carl, 43rd, S.O.A.G, Doc Phibes and all the rest of you likely Lads! You know who you are. SKOL!

Re: Why do I like this hobby......
I am a noob and just started out. When I was a child, RC toys are way too expensive so I only build static ones in 1/72 and 1/35 scale. 1/16 seems too big and expensive for me.
With Heng Long toys, 1/16 tanks suddenly become alot more affordable. My first heng long is a King tiger, I bought another Tiger 1. Now finally have the budget and courage to get a Tamiya!! I wish that these RC tanks could one day shoot real shells (not those BB pellets) and tanks have real armour. It would be really fun in an arena.

Quite how I missed this part of the thread, I don't know. Life is full of distractions. Painless, 'Crazy' Joe' will continue in his risible mythic existence as long as this Forum exists, and as long as we are able to chuckle. His 'postwar' mugshot is a perfect matchPainlessWolf wrote:Good afternoon,

Good afternoon:
Why do I like this hobby?
1:16 scale (hopefully 1:6 someday in the future) is much more forgiving on eyes that don't function as well as they once did.
I don't have to worry about up and down (bad things tend to happen when you screw those two up when flying model planes)
My reaction times are right in line with a slow moving armored vehicle. (it's tough to crash a model tank).
As I've gotten older I enjoy the building/fixing (and sometimes research) aspect more than just wanting to play with the "toy".
I like to think that I'm hanging with a more seasoned (aka older) group of people. Notice I didn't use the word mature.
And finally, I really enjoy seeing the skills displayed by the members on this forum.
Now, if I could get over the impulse to buy another tank.......
Have a great week!

Re: Why do I like this hobby......
I for one like this hobby because it forces me to be creative. This hobby has made me appreciate the value of every day household objects like the humble bread clip, which I couldn't do without. I've used aluminium cans and irrigation pipe fittings in ways I would never have thought possible before finding this hobby. Also watching other likeminded people's builds progress to museum piece quality (mr painless I'm looking at you) and being involved in the community of excellent people on this forum is bloomin' marvellous.
