There is a knack to smoothing PLA, it's printed in layers, so its the plastic equivalent of sanding the edge of plywood...very difficult. The best approach is to only sand one way, again very difficult on small parts. The other option is to stick the part into a sealed jar with a small amount of acetone in the bottom, the acetone melts the surface and smooths it. It can also be done with certain clear resin that is painted on.

This video explains it, and the chap has listed numerous products in the expanded description, if that helps.

Hey all,

Doing alot of rewiring tanks this month for Wooly and Ed, just hit a stumper, anyone know what size the JST for Tamiya IR systems is, its smaller than the Clark/Taigen connectors.

Does anyone know what type it is / have a link to ebay where I could purchase some.

I just converted the Panzer 3 below to IR, using a Clark board and Robs cheap way of doing it instructions.... everything works fine with 4 red flashing hit LEDs, 5 IR sensors around the turret hatch and recessed IR emitter in the turret.... also added a muzzle flash LED to the end of barrel, not sure how much I like this addition as it does show.... as can be seen in photo below. It took me quite a while to sort everything, me not being an expert. There are just masses of wires everywhere with these additions. Excellent instructions by Rob... there is no way I could have done this without these instructions. I chose the Panzer 3 as wanted something that was small and maneuverable around the battle field and with a short barrel.....

Is it not possible to recess the end of the barrel so the LED will sit flush? Alternatively a smaller diameter LED?

BTW, nice looking tank.

I always pull the flash led back into the barrel so that only the tip is showing, when it flashes it is still completely visible. Glad you got it all sorted, the PIII is great battle tank, one of the best out there, small, nimble and the short barrel doesn't get caught on scenery.

For some odd reason I never get email notifications from posts in the club section...which is a tad annoying...

I will try pulling the barrel flash back into the barrel as suggested.... thanks
I also tried to install a mini amplifier but for some reason it reduced the volume, so took it out

Interesting re the amp, have yet to try it on mine. It may be that the mini amps are less powerful than the Clark one?

Forgot to say...that's an excellent paint job!
