A bit O.T. Video format converters

Post by Spam In A Can 26 »

I just got an action cam & among other things it gives me a nice POV viewpoint for a couple of tank videos I made.
BUT!
It shoots .AVI files & my video editor converts them to .WMP to work on then to .WMV to save the finished project.
Heres the problem, Windows likes .WMV, but the rest of the video world likes Mp3 or Mp4!
Does anyone know of a good, safe (not virus loaded, anonymous) video converter to turn .WMP, or .WMV into Mp3 or 4?

We use VideoMach at work, but I thought the newer Media player could do the conversions? I used to have https://www.videolan.org/vlc/ installed, but not bothered when I upgraded last time.

I use 'handbrake' (www.handbrake.fr), an open source converter on my Mac. I believe that it works on Windows too...could be wrong though.

I didn't realise there were any!

If you're going to pay money might I suggest you try the free version of WinX HD video converter too? That's what I now use. The free version has limitations but I can't remember what they are now.

They do a special where you get 3 pieces of software for $50
