Re: German tanks towing ????
Hi,
Panther, Tiger and Tiger II were not allowed to towing other Tanks.
Why?
Because the transmission was too weakly dimensioned => Especially the Countershaft to Sprocket.
Spinturn was therefore not allowed too.

Re: German tanks towing ????
This is really a great question , which was not properly recognised at first as peeps harped on about tanks towing tanks for some time , which was not the original question.
Members keep saying the Tigers , Panthers , etc were not allowed to tow?
Where is the definitive WW2 German orders saying this?
If you tell all there not allowed please show proof.
Why were all these tanks fitted with tow hooks , were they going to tow a garden trailer to the tip with grass clippings?
A massive tank as such as the Tigers should be able to tow another tank out of the kill zone for repair , no worries.

Search the Net for "Pantherfibel" or "Tigerfibel".
Every Menber of Panther or Tiger Crev get this little Booklet.
In this Booklet are the rules for using a Tank.
For the Panther is on Site 86 "Driving Kurves".....

To be towed.Aussie wrote:Why were all these tanks fitted with tow hooks

It's like the Soviets issuing hammers to KV-1 crews so they could change gears, the Germans included tow hooks so their lemon tanks with rubbish final drives could be towed back for warranty service calls.

Rules were invented for those who enjoy breaking them..

Yup, looks like a 2-pdr to me. Booty from Dunkirk? The 2-pdr was supposed to be better performing than the Pak 36, I'm not surprised the Germans kept so many.
