Dragon PAK 40 75mm

Post by Spartan tracks »

I picked this up on eBay last week, I don't think dragon have made it for many years, Although it's not mint with a little work and a coate of paint it will be a nice model again ,I was a little shocked when it arrived in the post as its over 2ft long, I do have to find a shovel as mine is missing from the lower Armour plate. Ps I think this is the same high velocity 75mm as on the Panther.

The Pak 40 was not used in the Panther, although it was used in some Marders and other SPs. The pak40 was a 75mm A/T gun with a 46calibre barrel which was designated KWK40 but also known as 7.5/L46.

The Panther also used a 75mm gun but had a much longer barrel and used a much more powerful shell case. This was designated the KWK42 or 7.5/L71.
Like most of the big cats this was fired by electrical charge rather than a firing pin.

So even though the shells for the Tiger 1 and 88mm Flak gun were the same, the ammo was not interchangeable.

Andy, is that 1/6 scale? At two feet long it seems a bit large for 1/16. Good score, Andy, that's a nice piece whichever scale it is.

Hi,

Take note that this model is from Ultimate Soldier, which makes a 1/6 and 1/18 scale version of the Pak 40.

Cyber hobby / Dragon makes a 1/6 scale 7.5cm Pak 40 but it is extremely rare and can be recognized by the different road wheels, late muzzle brake and general better accuracy.

To be honest, it looks to be pretty robust.
Some of the 1/6 Dragon kits are a bit fragile.

I like it and it it will look cool being towed or deployed with a crew.
Cant wait to see the pix :-)

Cheers
