The wheels and caps are plastic. I did debate with myself whether to file them down till they were a little loose, then glue them in place. However, rightly or wrongly, I didn't. Only time will tell whether this was the right decision. Tight fit, here they are. You will see I have attempted my first proper serous attempt at weathering. Nothing fancy , a simple wash of brown earth over the complete wheel & tyres. I hope I have not overdone it. The weathering of the body will follow after I have had another look at the videos.

Nice . I don't think you have over done it. But from what i have learned anf recently experienced myself.: Don't attempt to do the weathering in only one step. Do it in thin layers of some variety based on the background of your vehicle.

Thanks for the advice. I am very wary as it will be my first attempt. I keep reading how less is more, so I think I shall take it very slowly. I shall probably seek reassurance here as I go along.

Well, I've taken the plunge, with considerable trepidation. I really did not want to mess things up. I realised that I was not going to be able to give it the full chipping treatment, having already put the top coat on, so what I have done is very minimalist (some might say invisible). What I have tried to do is just give the effect of stone chips, and other areas where paint has been damaged, e.g. by removing the jerrycans. The whole body has been given a coat of the MIG tan wash. I'm not sure how well it shows up in the photos, but it has dulled down and deepened the paint. As always, constructive comments are welcome.

I am sure you will like the pinwash, it really makes things popping out.

I shall be using a brown enamel wash from AK. Does it need thinning further or can it be used straight from the jar?

As I know they say it can be used right away... But as your paintjob is quite light, maybe u start with thinning it down a bit. If it is not dark enough you can easily make a second pass.

Also when doing the darker wash, have a small cloth or paper towel handy to take off the excess immediately.
You've done well so for mate, looks a good light dust with subtle marks.

I found straight out of the bottle, there was not much capillary action. Conversely, too much thinners and there was not much pigment. Hopefully I have found the right balance. I am assuming that the effect to aim for is not dramatic lines, but just to give a bit of depth and delineation. I have been a bit heavy handed in places, which caused the wash to run over the surface of the Puma, which I tried to clean up, but it has left some marks in places. This worried me, until I thought to myself, it's not going in a car showroom, it's a fighting vehicle and will get damaged paintwork and generally mucky. That's my excuse anyway. Photo will be posted in due course.

Good afternoon,
It's looking good there. Perfect amount of wear and a little dirt from use. Remember, the German Army took great pains to keep their armor serviced and ready to go. All the way up to the very end of the conflict. There was not a lot of the popular look of missing armor, fenders and caked in filth unless the vehicle had been in constant combat and even then, as soon as a field depot was set up, that stuff was taken care of to the very best of the mechanics and field depot workers ability.
