FPV Laser Sighting System for Airsoft Panther G

Post by Max-U52 »

Hey, Men, while I mess about with the Hetzer I also have a couple other projects simmerin' along (don't we all?) and this is one of them that's about ready for a thread of it's own. I first got the idea when I saw this

and thought to myself, "if I could disguise the camera as the IR lamp and the laser pointer as the IR camera I might have something there. At least it should be fun to play with, and that's kinda the point, right?

So that's how I decided to try and make a laser sighted targeting system for my airsoft Panther G. Here's a little video that shows the concept and some of the equipment used. It's not very expensive and just about anyone could add this to just about any hobby grade tank. There's no special mods to the TX or anything like that, the screen is pretty much completely self contain (and thanks again to my buddy Cronus for turnin' me onto the screen, it's really cool) and it gives you the ability to glance down at the screen and look right down the barrel of your tank, regardless of the postion of the turret in relation to you or the target.

I don't really expect a great deal of accuracy or the ability to put BBs on the red dot except at limited and specified ranges. Even then it would be a long (or get very lucky) process to match the dot to the impact point, which isn't always the same with these things.

Anyway, here's a little video on the subject, and maybe someone will have ideas for other applications for the gear. The little screen is also useful if you're driving FPV with goggles and you want a guest to be able to see what you see through the goggles, you just pop the screen out of the bracket and hand them a small, hand held TV set to watch the action on. So I think it will have a definite "cool factor" to it, eh?

So what do you guys think? Do you like the idea? Can you think of other ways to use the gear? All I need now is the transmitter for inside the tank to send the camera signal to the screen, and Cronus is working on that so hopefully I'll have a TX in my hot little hands real soon.
