Comet,Cromwell,Valentine V12 booming magic ..

Post by 43rdRecceReg »

Just found this nice clip of functional Brits tanks on display in 2016. Awesome. May not be new to some, but well worth a look...and especially a listen. :D Those Rolls-Royce downgraded Spitfire engines make a nice deep rumble on
5.1 speakers  I wonder if this sound can be captured, and input into the Clark tk60. That alone would sell the card to me.. :lolno:

..and if you want to see just how much exhaust gas a WW2 tank can put out, Shaun, just have a look at this one! :O .. :D Model tanks need smoke units...and the real ones require gas masks :haha:

The WW2 exhaust was a known design fault. If you take a look at the post war versions you will see that it has been totally redesigned. Not a lot of good having a tank that broadcasts its position every time the engine starts. lol.

A bit of Comet history on this one.

Great pics of the centurion - following your inspirational build I'm kind of fancying a scratch build of the centurion, maybe after the JS2 next winter.

Rumour has it that HL are working on one, though I will believe it when I see it.

Yes, he's a very talented guy. Would love to have that Merlin/Meteor sound on board; especially with a brace of decent speakers. :P You went with the Clark Tk60 road with your Cromwell, then? I'm leaning that way myself, as that unit seems to be fairly flexible and future proof. I can imagine there are lots of pros; but have you come up with any cons yet?

I can't see HL doing a centurion as the suspension would require quite a lot of assembly for them unless they fudge it somehow. I've just done the research on tank size and it will be a beast - 48.8cm long by 21.2cm wide. chris has a kit for it but it's out of my financial league, I downloaded his assembly pdf just to look at the complexity of the suspension. The suspension is doable with 3d printing though..... Maybe a project for the long winter nights.

ps I've just printed the blueprints and discovered that the KV1 track is very close to the right size for a Centurion if you remove the extra bit of plastic on both sides of the track, and the drive sprocket could be modified with a plastic insert, which just leaves the drive wheels, idlers, and return rollers which can be printed..... Hmmmm it's going to be a busy winter.  :haha:
