Strange Pz III
Strange Pz III
This is a photo of the flame thrower version of the Pz III ( with a superb cammo job )
hiding somewhere in the Kursk salient. It has hull schurzen but no turret schurzen,
not even the mounting brackets!
Has anyone seen this before?

Re: Strange Pz III
i see its a das reich pzIII, which is the company i wanted to base mine on to match my tiger 1, i might have to base mine on her, wouldnt need the recoil unit , cheers for the pic john
on second thoughts lets not go to Camelot ,it is a silly place
Re: Strange Pz III
Hi Ice,
Yep it's a Das Reich Pz III. The existing HL gun barrel is quite a nice match for the flame thrower version.
Here's the artists impression of the cammo pattern.
Cheers

Re: Strange Pz III
seen pics of pzIII with just side skirts make an interesting project, just need to work out how to get it to spout flame instead of BB's or infa red....

Seriously though, the artists impression of the camo differs somewhat to the photo of the tank.

A working flame thrower has been done, I think it was on the 'other forum'.
I agree about the artists impression of the cammo. Even if you ignore the bright patches that are made by the sunlight breaking through the trees, the overall pattern is different.
It's still very nice though.

Sorry Ice it's 6th Panzer Division not DR notice the right bar is shorter than the left, these were markings used for the Kursk offensive to confuse the Russians and Rivet Counters alike[ICE]monkey wrote: i see its a das reich pzIII, which is the company i wanted to base mine on to match my tiger 1, i might have to base mine on her, wouldnt need the recoil unit , cheers for the pic john

They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

It certainly fooled us! Thanks for pointing it out.
Shame the author wasn't as knowledgable as yourself.

Re: Strange Pz III
There were 100 Ausf M converted to flame throwers unfortunately they were not very successful and they were converted back with normal turrets.
If you looking for interesting conversions for a Panzer III
Just remove the turret and pile bridging sections on top the field engineers did that in Russia( Until high command found out and made them convert them back)
Remove the turret built a square fighting compartment and scratch build the barrel of a sig33 field gun and you have a sturm-infanteriegeschutz 33
Bergepanzer III
You could remove the turret and use it as an armoured ammunition carry to accompany tigers.
If you wanted to be really different repaint it as a Russian Tank there are plenty of photos of them in front line use by the Russians. They were even pressed into use by the allies as prime movers
