Need help with elmod choice

Post by madbadger »

well Ive fried my KT, just this minute burnt out my RX14 board (ive had it running a early Tam KT with impact boxes and tracks) i think i pushed it to much even though i have extra heat sinks and a fan, i just think the HL gear couldn't run the weight, but anyway i was debating to upgrade the motors as well, and i can remember someone on here commenting that the HL gear couldnt push bigger motors.

so i think i will go elmod, can anyone tell me exactly what i need to make the transition.

i will rip out the heng long stuff, so i will need a complete list of items to make her run again.....

can anyone help?

thanks

hi Kev,

with the el-mod, there are a few options you need to consider before any purchase is made.

1, do you want to use the stock hl radio gear ? or do you want to use a 3rd party radio ?

2, is your tank super heavy, if so you will need the bigbooster,

thats all i can think of off the top of my head, if you answer these questions you can go to the next step :D

i have a 6 channel rc box and the tank is quite heavy 10 pound maybe more. the rc gear is the old stuff out of the KT, i removed it and installed all Heng long gear into the chassis, but i think its time to replace it, unless you know cheaper/better option.

does this help?

Hi Kev,

You need the new "Think Tank Module" (Motor and turret/light/shoot control) this will handle 2 x 10 amps motors as standard (No need for the old "Bigbooster" / "Afterburner+Booster" cards)

http://www.el-mod.de/index.php?cPath=68 ... ef74730674

And for the sound the "BlasterIII"

http://www.el-mod.de/index.php?cPath=74 ... ef74730674

Go for prop radio, I have tried both prop and Hl radio for El-Mod but if you have get used to the prop setup there is no way back....

Thanks for that Jake, so just those 2 items and my old RC gear will get me up and running, i don't have any fancy recoil unit or flashing led.....just forwards backwards left/righ, turret rotation and gun elevation (Heng long unit modified)

i suppose all i need then are some instructions on how to wire the damm thing up.....LOL.....

i do have a headlight on the KT, i don't suppose that will work after fitting the elmod, unless i rig it via the on/off switch from the battery.

"just those 2 items and my old RC gear will get me up and running"

Yep with some installation & configuration work...and if your radio is one of these:

These systems are tested and will work with El-Mod :
All FM systems from Graupner, Futaba and Robbe, Multiplex (transmitter and receiver)
Receiver of ACT and Webra
Spectrum DX6i and AR6100 DSM2 receiver

"i suppose all i need then are some instructions on how to wire the damm thing up.....LOL....."

Check: http://www.el-mod.de/manuals.php?osCsid ... ef74730674

"i do have a headlight on the KT, i don't suppose that will work after fitting the elmod, unless i rig it via the on/off switch from the battery"

No need for that, El-Mod will take care of this also.

Check out their FAQ there are some valuable information:

In the electronics section of this forum  found this, and then threw away the elmod instructions(Not that they were bad,but this is so good)
