Build Log Format

Post by Max-U52 »

Hi Guys. I just posted a video build log in the Heng Long Modern section, and it's a bit different from what you usually see. Between tanks and many years of static aircraft models I have looked at a lot of build logs and they were all basically the same format. A guy starts a project and starts a thread, then he posts photos as he goes along and there is discussion about the project and eventually you get to the finished project and the end of the thread. This one will be a bit different.

viewtopic.php?f=201&t=22135

In the above linked build log you'll find that the first video you see shows the finished tank, ready to rock. Then comes the build videos. This way (at least this is what I'm thinking) you can see the finished tank first, and hear everything that's been done to it, and then you can decide if any of the mods are of interest to you and if they are you can just skip to that section and not waste time on stuff you either already know or don't plan to use.

Now, I realize that this format will be of limited use, and it eliminates the builders ability to get advice along the way, but I still think the format has merit and will be useful to some. But, I'm sure you guys will let me know if I'm wrong, Right? @) @)

So please take a minute to check it out and give your opinions of the format. Did you like it? Do you think it would be easier for you than waiting until the end of a project to see how it comes out, or is the anticipation part of the fun? Would you prefer it if we stick to the traditional format? I really want to know what you guys think about this whole concept of having different formats for our build logs.

Good morning,
I'm going to pass on this, Doc and for this (possible) reasoning. I'm almost a year into a Tiger 1 build and if I waited to show what I was doing until the Build was complete, who knows how much info I might have lost, photos, specs, tips, etc, before I actually posted the steps I took to get to the point where the completed vehicle suddenly shows up on the Forum. Doing things day to day is a better method for me. Folks like Frank who can turn out tanks in a week or two might be better served by doing it this new way. Entirely their deal, ya know ;o)
regards,
Painless

Hey painless, I hear what you're saying but I was kind of looking for which format you like to read better. I can really understand that a lot of guys won't want to format their build logs this way when they're working on a project of Their Own but I'm wondering which one do you prefer to read? Would you prefer to see the Finish tank right at the beginning or do you want to watch and follow along as it is built?

Good afternoon,
Speaking only for myself, I would want to follow the build A-Z and then admire the finished Build in a Show Off-Photo Spread\Video post. I'm just one of those linear type fellows. ;o) Please don't hold it against me. *chuckles*
regards,

I won't hold it against you painless. Your opinion is what it is and that's what I wanted to hear.

Like the idea, and agree Painless has a point. I guess an original post could be edited to add a finished product after the build was finished.

I think it's a neat idea, a retrospective video log is something different and spices things up. More like something you'd see on TV, almost.

Some of your videos helped get me into the hobby Max, so I'm keen to see more of what you've got.
