I can't see that RTR is a bad thing.

Not everyone has the temperament, skills, knowledge, or time to devote to the (sometimes a bit obsessive) assembling, painting and weathering of a model. I would rather let someone who is good at it, and enjoys it do it for me, so I might consider a custom model one day.

Some just want to drive and shoot.

There seems to be a faction which feels that you are not a "real modeler" if you are happy with RTR.
Facts seldom change public opinion.

As no modelling is required on an rtr by its definition then that probably fairly accurate. The model making (as opposed to operating) begins as soon as you start tinkering (which to be fair 99% of us have to do at some point to keep a model running).

Well by definition-Noun 1. modeller - a person who creates models modeller - a person who creates models
?modeler

?creator - a person who grows or makes or invents things

If your happy with rtr and do nothing at all to your tank..then I'd say by definition your a owner of a 1/16 rc model tank-driver stroke shooter of tank lol

'...rctankwarfare' in itself suggests an 'end'- i.e., battling with a completed tank, rather than a 'means'; which would be modelling or modding of a tank itself towards an end; tho' not necessarily a belligerent one :D
Personally, I err on the modelling and modding side, but do appreciate that others just want to dive into a spot of RTR skirmishing.
Even if there were the possibility of a local IR shoot fest in my area (there isn't), I'd still err on the building side, I think...but for those who crave a simulated conflict, and no local resources exist (Jackalope for example, our trainee train driver..Bon chance again Terry!)..either you get hooked on assembly, or you revert to online simulations
like WOT. Or.....you look for another hobby.

When i bought my first tank (a kit as i had no idea you could buy rtr tanks) I did not know what I was getting into. I knew nothing about battling, so bought the kit to assemble. Had I known about rtr, I would still have bought the kit. It was only meeting up with the guys from BAD that opened my eyes. The rest, as they say, is history.
