Torro Tiger 1 build and paint pics??

Post by Andyddd »

Hi Guys,
It my first dabble at building a tank which I am very excited about, I bought the kit from Tankzone the Tiger 1 kit that you buidl from scratch and cant wait for it to arrive, I seem to recall I saw a post/thread last week of someone showing you some pics and info of them building the same kit, seem to recall one image showed parts of the suspension/wheel arms being painted and it mentioned a tip of what to position them on to paint them.

I would also just like to ask what is the best dark yellow paint to spray it with once I have used the under coat from Halford? or is there a better uncoat I should use? I'm not going to be very detailed with it but do want to have a good paint job.

Can i just spray it with undercoat or do I need to do any prep to the metal first?

Thank you for reading and look forward to your reply and I look forward to getting really involved with the forum :)

At least with a Tiger there is loads of material to reference.
Tamiya spray can TS-3 or a pottle XF-60 are the best options for base coat.

As for undercoat, any good self etching primer in the red oxide will do.
I use an automotive primer that really eats its way in to the surface.

I use the red acrylic spray primer from Halfords. I'm no expert but it seems to do the job. I've never had problems with any paint peeling off.

Personally, I don't, but I believe some will wash it or wipe it with warm soapy water to remove any oil on the metal. Like i said, I've not had any problems with my Tamiya kits.

I've always washed everything with warm soapy water or wiped with alcohol (like methylated spirits or ispropanol) prior to priming.

The type of primer you choose will probably determine how important that initial clean-up step is, though.

Agree, any metal bits can use a wipe over with any form of hydrocarbon.
Thinners, methylated spirits, brake cleaner they all work.
I usually use meths, but have used brake cleaner if im out of meths.
As long as you even give them a wipe with a dry cloth its better than risking paint peel.
My primer is really aggressive though, it sticks like dog shit to a shag pile carpet.

What primer do you use for the metal stuff, Herman? I used Tamiya surface primer all over my T-34/76, and the tracks have chipped it off the running gear (even though I haven't done a whole lot of driving). I'm thinking I'll need something more aggressive in the future.

Called Holts Duplicolour PS108 and its a 400gram can.
Available at Autobarn stores.
Its really good and you need to sand it to remove it.
I use it on all plastic and metal.
Also available in a smaller can but I always go the bigger one.

Thanks for that, I'll check it out. Have you found it fine enough to spray directly from the can, or do you decant into the airbrush?
