Hi All

A break from the fun stuff.. thought I better sort out the electrics.

Hopefully someone will be able to help with this little prob.


So here we have heng long rotation unit that needs to be pluged in but where ?



As you can see in this pic there's no spare connection



Would this be my answer..to change the above for this?

Well you can not plug the rotation unit straight into the Ibu, theres no room on the connection point I pictured. Surely the bottom pic with more connection points must be the way. Someone must know??

Is that a Taigen IR 360 rotation kit, or Heng Long's version? I've no experience of the Heng Long unit, but the Taigen wiring from the slipring usually breaks down into a five pin and three pin connector
for Airsoft and 5/3/2 pins for IR (and an extra two pin for an additional MG) I've not seen an 8-pin connector like the one you have there emerging from the slipring; so I imagine it's for IR with extra an Turret machine gun. Usually, a slipring kit should provide all the connectors and mini circuit boards you need to get going. Plus instructions. Taigen kits are well illustrated.
My guess..and it is a guess for the moment..is that you may need to gently lever the pins out of the slipring block and mount them in 5/3/2 JSTs (as appropriate). They then go into the second version of the turret adaptor you have illustrated there (5/3/2pins+ 8pins), whilst the 8-pin cable from this block adapter will plug into the 8-pin socket on the IBU2. Then you'll need to check whether the pin and colour combinations match the required functions ( Elev., Turret rotation etc.)
Might well require a tad more research though.
It can't hurt to look at Imex-Erik's take on fitting the three versions of 360 deg rotational kits Taigen have on offer:

As an addendum. I know I've seen 8-pin (F)JST cables that terminate in 5 and 3 pin micro (F) JSTs. So perhaps there's one that goes from 8pin to 3/3/2pin JST. Finding one of these might make the task simpler...Anyway, good luck.

thanks for the kv/2 link looks like the wires from the turret rotation go behind the little board that's odd..you would of thought it would plug into a socket on that same little board. By the way this isn't a 360slip ring just normal taigen recoil.

You're welcome, of course, Jake. The photo was a little indistinct for these ageing peepers I'm afraid, and so when you mentioned 'rotation' I assumed- wrongly in this instance- that you had a slipring kit in there.
I agree it's an odd arrangement in there; but thus far I have no experience of the KV1 setup. However, I always draw my own wiring diagrams using coloured pencils to match the loom colours: really back to basics stuff.
But... that way (and making use of archived RCTW material) I can be pretty sure that the right wires go to the right components. I also use a simple circuit tester and multimeter to check for power in the right places. Even a simple continuity tester (most multimeters offer that feature) can tell you a lot about where the juice is going, or if there's a fault, Though I'm sure you know all this already.

Ah, well the turret connector board in the King Tiger works like that, doesn't it. Don't have one to hand, but the turret wires are soldered to the back of the board, and the front takes the plug in JST connector/s. That board is then screwed to two plastic pedestals. If you want to mod the King Tiger of tiger turret wiring for up/down elevation (instead of the legacy HL full cycle crap)
you have to add an extra connection wire to the soldered side of the board. There's no plug in option. This is just an example of how that connector board works. Maybe other models have plug in fixtures, like the one in your photo. Of course, you can wire the turret directly to the 8-pin loom/cable to ultimately slots into the MFU; but that would make separating the tank upper and lower chassis tricky, although it then bypasses the connector.

Jake if you've not altered the wiring it's plug and play for the Ibu2 all you might need to do is add a positive wire from your battery to the Asiatam recoil.

In one of mine some of the wires had been soldered in rather than plugged - made fitting the new turret somewhat interesting! Not sure how old some of the KV's are, but is it possible they built them then added the Rx/Tx before shipping?

Everything with the electrics I've got working no probs there, the reason for the thread is that I was somewhat confused there is nowhere to plug in the turret rotation unit. I'll try my original plan and use the new board Dave sent me (pictured) if that doesn't work I'll give soldering the two wires to the back of the original board a try.
