New to tanks :) 80's Tamiya RC car racer :)

Post by Andyddd »

Hi Guys,

New member! :) My name is Andy I am based in East kent close to Folkestone, grew up with Tamiya RC car's use to race them at Medway Off Road Club, back in the day. Started with a Hornet, then a Hotshot, then a second one that I heavily modifed and then bought the holy grail at the time a Schumacher CAT! then the CAT XL which gave me two wheel base lengths to choose from when competing at different tracks :)

So RC has been in my blood for year. I have always fancied a RC tank and so hear I am :)

Hi Andy, our RC back ground is similar and I am also new to the forum. I also have always wanted a tank and finally have one. Looks like my rc crawlers are going to take a back seat for awhile, the tank is just to much fun to not start tweaking and modding.

Welcome aboard. The Windy City is one of my favorite to visit. Love the Science and Industry museum. The race track known as Lake Shore Dr is a real eye opener to out of towners.

Oh God the Hotshot era !!
I was an entry level to RC off road cars with "The Fast Attack Vehicle" by Tamiya, then getting the then new 4WD Hotshot, I was made........sold off over 300(yes-that right-ask my mum) 1/72 and 1/76 Model Tanks, many scratch built SDkfz halftrack variants with PaK 40's & suchlike that you couldnt buy back then , and 8000 troops of mostly Airfix, all painted to fund it..........
Jeeeeezz I wish I'd kept them...........including the very first Matchbox 1/76th Sherman Firefly :shifty: :shifty:

Soon set about getting Team Associated shock absorbers onto custom mounts. a solid state speed controller, the obligatory steering-wheel transmitter, and removing the standard chassis in favour of a home made PCB space frame that reduced weight even further.
Made up a set of RC10 Team Associated spiked tires, sealed to the (material reduced) rims , and used a (liberated)hypodermic needle to inflate/deflate the pressures :/

Ahhhheeemmmmm..............
(aged a gazillion years) yes, those early days of Tamiya offroad RC were great fun :shh:

Ohh, yeah, tanks, welcome along mate, these things are far more reflective of reaction time and lack of focus
