I guess tanks have been a bit of an interest for a while now, probably since about 1966 when aged 5 we went to Paris and found a relic in a park you were actually allowed to climb over and in. I assume that's long gone and now in museum somewhere.

RC has never been far from my mind since walking past the local model shop window and looking at a helicopter that even just the radio gear in the mid 70's was well beyond my financial reach.

Go anywhere ability holds a facination, 4 (or more) wheel drive, helicopters, vertical take off aircraft, hovercraft, amphibians and tracked vehicles - oooohhh sexy!

Chunky is good, miniture is all fine and very clever but I like things with a bit of "mass". In the garden I have a small G-scale train track. If you've not seen G it's actually 45mm track and the scale varies from about 20th to 30th scale depending on the prototype.

I have a couple of tracked vehicles already, nothing exotic or expensive a 1/24th Leopard, 1/16 Challenger 2, a no scale toy MLRS that fires nerf darts and a very old Radio Shack / Tandy rc toy tank (somewhere).
Soon to be joined by a late Christmas present 1/16th HL Tiger 1

Hoping to avoid too many mistakes by looking at how you guys (and girls?) have done it before me.

I think the only picture I can find quickly is of a slightly dodgy Abrams in 1/12 scale I was bought for a birthday some years ago, it quickly had the rockets, fuel drum and stickers removed and I proceeded to add in a video baby monitor as a sort of FPV system on the cheap and a laser diode in the coax for aiming the airsoft gun. It was never what you might call fine scale but it was fun tearing across the grass with a drivers view on a small screen attached to the Tx. The picture was taken straight out of the box.

Lack of spares availability was it's demise.

I don't think so Normandy and we flew to Paris on a DC3. The most fun flight you can imagine as we hit turbulance and it was like a rollercoaster which I thought was a hoot, my mother tried to keep my squeals of delight under control as a woman up the aisle who had been nervous before was getting near hysterical.

I was five, it was a long time ago but it still made my mum laugh about it.

Thanks for the tip, Grantham's not too far away but on the 8th we're in Cheltenham visiting family and I don't have anything suitable for IR battles.

My late Christmas present arrived today, very impressed with the Amazon sellers response speed. I was emailing them on the morning of the 27th and assuming as it was a holiday I'd get a reply in a day or so but they were back at me in 30min, by 9:40 we'd exchanged a couple of mails and 30min later the order was placed.
The tank arrived this morning and is now sitting on the dining table with the battery charging. I have a "few" of the same type from airsoft guns so it's already had a bit of a run around the carpet

If I get a chance of some decent light I'll take a few tomorrow although it's an absolutely standard, out of the box HL Tiger I which you've all seen a million times, I wasn't even planning on attatching the "bits" until I'd decided what other jobs might need doing to it.

I've been dipping in and out of birger's excellent thread of "HL-TIGER I, Basics, Failures and how to remove them." but I have a question, probably been asked and answered a dozen times.

I can see that as the electronics have been updated the basic mouldings have remained the same so the recess for the ABC switch for the older radio is there, there's a hole to access the sound volume pot, all obsoleted by the 2.4g radio but have they deleted the safety switch in the turret for the BB firing mech?
When I open the hatch there's a slot for a switch but no switch, the sound & recoil happens, I haven't loaded it with BB's but I was just wondering if the switch should be there? You do hear some stories of dodgy QA

The tank runs so if I need to pop the tracks off and open the hull up to refit a switch so be it but I'd rather not do that on day one.
