Smoke unit

Hi guys I've just a Torro Tiger 1.
How much oil do i put in the smoke unit. sorry if it is a stupid question but I'm new to tanks,

Wellcome to the rc tank world mate. I m not a proffesional and i had the same question like u when i got my first tank.Its a very great and important question. U must start with 1 ml and wait until u see nice smoke. After this oil finishes ,fill it with 2 ml max. Not more .It has the standard simple smoker is this correct ?

As LG has just observed, you only need small amounts to get it working. It may already have a little residue from the factory. If you can make sense of the bizarre instructions of the user manual, that should have come with it, you will find instructions on first use in there.
If the language is comically incomprehensible, at least the illustrations are easy to follow. Just don't overfill it! Great choice of model, by the way...Enjoy!

Adrian Hi, If the Smoker fitted in your Tiger 1 is a Torro unit then it will sooner or later (Probably sooner) fail,
The history of smokers in R/C Tanks is not a happy one,
Some of us used to remove them as soon as we got the Tank, But times change and it is possible to buy a decent smoker from people such as Tankbear (Ian)

Where you will discover the "TARR" range of smokers, but as to Heng Long, Torro, or Taigens own smokers, quite simply when it inevitably packs up don't bother trying to fix it, just take it out and replace it with something better.

If you move the tank upside down all the smoke oil that hasn't been absorbed by the pad and wick of the smoker should run out the exhausts. That alone doesn't mean the smoker will immediately start working as the wick if oversaturated and can take a long time for enough of the residual smoke oil to leave it and return to the pad in the bottom of the smoker. You can try running with the smoker on and this sometimes will help get the wick back to its correct state.

If your lucky with getting the access oil to run out the exhaust tubes the smoker and the heater filament isn't broken it may start working right away. If so follow the instructions on how much oil to put in.

You will learn by smell if there is to little oil on the wick (burning oil smell) and the smoker must immediately be shut down or the heating filament will burn up and break.

Best advice if you use the stock smoker... keep a few spares on hand as their lifespan in my experience is rather short.

Thanks for the info.
I've just ordered another one just in case. I am thinking on making my own smoker using a 40mm fan. I have heard 3 in 1 oil works well.
As a youngsters we used to rig up a windscreen washer bottle full of break fluid and a washer jet to spray in to the carb on the old MK2 Escorts. it works like a James Bond smoke gadget.
I was wondering if it would work in a smoker.

If you overfill you cantake the top off the smoke unit (4screws) and use tissues to soak up the excess oil. This will also give you a better idea of how much oil is sufficient.
In my experience the smokers last well enough and a standard one is only around £12.00 to buy.

No point in having a tank that looks superb, sounds superb but has no smoke from the exhaust n'est pas ?
