Hello from Denmark

Post by Noziroh »

Hi

My name is Frank, ive got a Torro King Tiger Pro Edition BB 1/16 tank.
Its been sitting on a shelf in my office for a couple of years now.
For a long time now ive been wanting to upgrade it alittle.
So after reading forums, and reading about all the different kind of electronics for tanks ive decided what way to go.
I got a IBU 3, TARR MK1 12V Smoke Unit, 5000mAh NiMH batteries and a Walkera Devo 12S with RX1202.
I might go the LiPo way later. But atm NiMH will be fine for me.
Im aware the smoker makes less smoke with a 7,2V battery, but then hopefully the oil lasts longer ;)
I went with the Devo 12S for several reasons.
The sticks/gimbals in the Devo's are factory ready for the self centering setup, you just loosen a screw in the non self centering one, and voila its now self centering :D
Its 12 channel.
There is great and very versatile software for Devo's at: https://www.deviationtx.com/
Lets me make a full "Tank Theme" on the transmitter with background, icons ect.
I found it at a Price lower then Spektrum DX8, which was my first choice till I found the Devo 12S.
The Devo 12S just looks amazing 8)
No gearbox upgrade yet, but have been looking at Waltersons High Grade and Taigen Premium Series III both in 4:1 and 5:1.
Been leaning most toward Taigen Premium Series III 5:1.

Thats alittle about me and my tank project.
:)

Hi, NOZ, Welcome to the Forum,
If you do decide to buy Taigen 5/1 gearboxes, Dave at Forgebear is selling a pair for the Tiger 1 /PZ111,/PZ4 for £32 brand new.
I have no idea if they fit a Tiger 2 but if you go to
http://www.forgebeartanks.com
you will be able to find out.
Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy the Forum.
Shaun.
I have just looked at Forgebears site and Taigen Gearboxes for a King Tiger are just under £40.
That is great value cos everywhere else they go for £60.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Thanks guys

Your gonna ruin me :D
Already found some items I want.
Bearing Enhanced Metal Turret Ring.
Full Metal Recoil + Elevation Unit (Not sure if this is compatible with a BB model though).
540 Crawler Brushed Motors (Paired with a 5:1 those should give a ton of torque).

Hi, Nozi
Addictions are not known to be infectious; but the 1/16 tank one is a notable exception! :lolno:
If you're intending to keep the BB feature, as far as I'm aware the only way to get barrel recoil with BB function, is with the Taigen Tiger 1 system (see: http://www.taigentanks.com/taigen-tank-parts/tag120700). You'd have to adapt the servo mechanism/mantlet internal parts etc., to fit your tank; but it should be possible. Taigen (through their Tank guru, 'Imex-Erik') have often said that the barrel recoil mechanism would be available for other models in future. It hasn't happened yet, though.
Welcome to model tank mania
