Its 245mm from the barrel sleeve to the muzzle.
I have no reason to second guess the guys at Tank Modellbau on the correct dimensions.
Could be it looks bigger just because my Matorro hull is not the right shape, but it is very big.
It is about 1 1/2 inches longer than the resin barrel on the Matorro.

I've seen the Bovington Jagdtiger, and the cannon is so big it's absurd. It's basically a bunker on tracks, and yours looks just like it.

I've seen 331 at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.............and even in full battery(all the way back) its still huge.

Well lads, after a long road of guessing, deciding, and pondering methodology & universal oscillation about the periphery , I finally figured out how to secure the Taigen recoil/elevation unit and get it to align with all the planets AND the barrel centre line.
Had to cut the now redundant BB loading chute, and pick up an existing mounting point, then use an aloominum( :/ ) section to bridge from a redundant elevation mounting point in the rear of the casemate to one of the front plate anchor points.
Out of four mounting points for the Taigen unit, I can pick up 3 of them now.
I'm sure it's not all over yet as far as adjusting travel & all the rest of it, but from an empty casemate, to a shot at the title, I'm pretty stoked ;) 8)
The Taigen unit does not offer a lot of travel in depression, but for this thing with its 'Proboscis - Maximus' a little bit of down shows a lot . Plus the mounting is not perfect, so this is all round a good compromise.................

Good morning,
Beautiful, well thought out mounting, Herman. Looks solid and able to withstand the recoil of that metal barrel.
Regards,
Painless

Thanks Mr Painless, time will only tell :eh:

I was mucking around tonight with the gadget that is supposed to attach the end of the barrel to the recoil unit. Trying to make sure it will retain the barrel no matter the forces involved.
Trimming off the insert that goes into the actual barrel to do the forward-ing & backward-ing !
I was looking at the barrel length and trying to get perspective on the entire thing in case I have to reposition the Taigen unit.
Then a thought.
The barrel looks about 'right' when its in full battery(all the way back)
My theory is that if the dimensions of over all length for models are based on how it looks(& measures) when the barrel is positioned after the recuperators are drained & a round fired, then it looks right. (JT 331 at APG looks like this, or it did when I saw it)
Still an impressive barrel, but somehow it looks better sitting back inside the mantlet sleeve.
Now I may be on the crack pipe, but this is not about the right dimensions, but about the right look..............
Holding the original barrel assembly next to the new one in full recoil they are almost the same length and position relative to the casemate front plate.

:shifty: :shifty: :wtf:

The distance the Taigen recoil assembly travels is 25mm(1 inch for you left hand drivers), which added to the increased length of the TMB barrel assembly gives me the 36mm (a shade short of 1 1/2 inches)extra length when measured out of the bag.
Could be that JT models are made to look right rather than measure up accurately.............. :shh: :shh:
Those of you lucky b'stards that have torro JT's can chime in with your measurements, just to clear up this conspiricy theory I've talked myself into :/ :/

That gun length topic is really interesting. I will habe to check this and see whether pictures in the books show a difference. In the "Schwere Jagdpanzer" book I have, they discuss the topic of travel positions of the Jagdtiger gun for the probability of a longer version. But maybe it was, if this was even possible, retracted when not in fighting? Is this even possible?

Thanks Mr Soeren.
Would be good to have extra info on this.............cant beat a good conspiricy theory !!

Im back from out west at work. Hot is a word used to describe things like ovens on a Sunday Roast, but this last few days needs an entirely new decription
Digital thermometer I use to check running temps on hardware gave me 57C on the red dirt................
Glad to be home into the A/C all day thats for sure.

I see the recoil-fairy has not visited to sort things out, so its going to be up to me :problem: :problem:
Thanks to the man that painted those crew I have, I now am in possession of my very first ever pack of miliput
Did not know it was a two-part compound.
What is the best way to blend them so as to get proper reaction ?
He set a box of Classy Hobby fuel drums & Jerry cans too.
Kit MC 16002.
These things have brass etch parts to form the joint ribs around the cans !!............
Now I have to go back & remove all the other non-Jerry cans from my other tanks & replace them with these :/

Got lots of reading to do to catch up, and the last round of V8 Supercars is this weekend, plus there is a pre xmas special on Coronas with a free corona bucket per box, so not much tanking going on this weekend I fear :haha: :haha:
