Best RC Tank for Beginners?
Hello all! Glad to be here. Just looking around and wanted to find the best rc tank for a beginner. Preferably one that shoots. I saw this list: http://rcjudge.com/best-rc-tank/ but have no idea which one would be best suited for a beginner.
I'm stuck between the German Tiger and the Bulldog? I'm looking to get really into this hobby so price doesn't matter.
Appreciate any help! Thanks in advance.

I will leave it to others to advise. However, I would say that the page you link to is pretty close to useless. It fails to give any information about manufacturers, different specifications or prices. There are inaccuracies in it as well.

Tamiya Tiger 1, Taigen FlakPanzer IV,Torro M16 half-track, Tamiya Panther,WSN/Torro T34,Taigen M41 Bulldog,H/l/Taigen Sherman M4A3,H/L T90, Haya M3 Grant, Metal Origins 234/2 Puma, Nashorn by Alwyn. I was only going to have one tank - honest!

Agree with Mr.Surfer that page is useless.
As for what tank to buy just remember you get what you pay for. Sure you CAN buy a $90 Tiger with free shipping but don't be surprised when it breaks the first or second time you run it. There is a reason why some tanks look the same but cost a lot more. The better the version the more it will cost.

Depends on what you want. Do you want to run outside, upgrade, paint, modify? IR battle ready?

The page you linked to simply invites you to buy a product from Amazon.Com. Otherwise, it's about as useful a cowpat. I'm assuming you live in the US, and so prices will differ wildly from those across the pond (and language divide
). You must shop around, though. Like you, I was clueless about rctanks to begin with. My advice would be to read up on the merits (pros and cons) of Tigers, Bulldogs and other models, as well as those of the makers. Then check out: Heng Long vs Taigen,.... vs Tamiya, etc., on this and other forums. Next, decide what you want to do with your tank: IR, BB shooting, Customising etc.) Before you buy, however, always check out store and product reviews. That way you can save yourself a world of pain later...and posts to online armoured agony uncles ! (Ooops, Aunties too)
I built a Taigen Tiger to begin with. The parts were of good quality, and the 'Pro' RTR versions are beginning to compare favourable with Tamiya tanks.
Welcome, and good luck

Re: Best RC Tank for Beginners?
All great advise given.
My first and only tank is the heng long walker bulldog,i love it and at the moment dont need anything more for my use.
Its track system is pretty reliable in stock form, plenty power and decent speed.
Now if your looking for a nice scale quality machine......then heng long is on the lower end of that list.
Not saying hl is cheap quality.....nor great quality.
For its price as a stock bb tank.....id say its hard to beat for money.
I went hl to get my feet wet in the rc tank world,no regrets.
I have the 2.4 ghz airsoft with sound version.....think i paid $125-140 shipped.
With all that said i have no other tank to compare it too,ive read the bulldog is smaller in size to tigers and others, bulldog really wasnt that big in full size.

I started with a Taigen Tiger 1 and I can't recommend it enough. Drove very well out of the box, and is highly upgradable. Mine now has a Clark board, TARR smoker and 5:1 gears, but the standard tank is more than good enough. All it needs now is a new IR system and it will be ready to lock horns with my Tamiya Sherman.

Hi, There was a time when the cheapest and lets be honest nastiest 1/16 r/c Tanks were made by HENG LONG,
Forget those times,
The Latest models with the latest control boards are coming close to some aftermarket control boards,
The tools on the Heng Long Tanks "POP" off whereas the Taigen and Torro Tanks have their tools moulded into the Tank Body, this means if you wish to upgrade the various fixtures on the Tank it is easily done without having to spend too many hours cutting, dremmeling and filing off the moulded tools that are still to be found on the more expensive Tanks,
The downside is the lack of a Metal Hull and Turret,
Although a good thing about the Heng Long Tank is that while once upon a time the Plastic was really second class the material used today is "ABS" which is both sturdy and forgiving,
In my worthless opinion for a first Tank, as long as you get the latest version Heng Long Tanks with the latest controller which has a shiny chrome centre and sides then get a Tiger 1, For the simple reason that you are getting a lot of Tank for your money and the extra space inside the Tiger 1 means you are less likely to break wires and other important bits and pieces while you are getting used to it, And not to be forgotten, there are more upgrades available for a Tiger 1 than any other.
And of course if you discover that this hobby is not for you then you havn't lost $100s, because you can easily spend hundreds on a Tank that ostensibly looks exactly the same as your Heng Long Tiger 1,
BUT I cannot emphasise strongly enough that you buy the LATEST Heng Long and not something that the dealer has had on his shelf for more than six months,
So buy from a reputable dealer who has a rapid turnover for peace of mind.
Shaun.
