Please can I have some tips and recommended colours for painting the wooden tool handles etc in acrylics.

There's a chap named Dave Lundquist who has a series of figure painting videos on YouTube. For tool handles, he uses Vallejo paint, the base colour is Iraqi Sand, followed by a top coat of thinned down Smoke. Brushing along the length of the handle gives a grain effect from the brush marks.

There is an alternative, Cut the handles from the replacement metal tools and using a pin vise form a socket for a wooden handle made from "Cocktail sticks",
