Hi,
I am considering some metal tracks for my Tamiya King Tiger restoration project and have seen the Torro version for sale at Welsh Dragon.
Does any one here run Torro Tracks on their Tamiya King Tiger and if so were any other modifications required?
Best Regards
Keith.

Re: Torro Metal Tracks for Tamiya King Tiger
Hi Keith,
Sorry for the late reply. I have an early Tamiya King Tiger fitted with Mato or Torro metal tracks.... using adapted Heng Long gearboxes for lower ratio.
Unfortunately there were quite a few problems with adding the extra mass of the tracks...
.
The track tensioners are FAR too weak to handle the metal tracks. I tried various mods including drilling and pining the friction drum but all attempts failed.I ended up making a rather crude home made version.... the proper solution would be to buy an aftermarket tensioner from Welsh Dragon .
.
The front corners of the hull started to pull apart under the strain of the extra weight of the tracks and the power required to turn them. I used a length of 3mm threaded bar which I screwed in between (and through) the front towing shackles to clamp the two front corners together AND added an alloy cross brace to the front above the track guards.
.
The standard torsion strips/bars are a bit weak to carry the extra weight and the tank tends to sag rather badly.
.
Sorry to offer some potentially bad news, but fore warned is fore armed and you know what issues will have to be addressed.... All the 'problems' have solutions, but once you start to alter parts on any of the tanks it tends to have a 'Knock-On' effect ..... I will add some photos of my mods once I can find my camera which I appear to have moved to 'Somewhere Safe'...
