Drilling the alloy turret of a three year old Taigen Tiger1?

Best micro drills for this task?

I have tried my modellers micro drills, with little success to date, so can a model Tankie expert give this old chap advice on this subject?

Hi Welcome back,
I assume when you say Micro Drills you mean Micro drill BITS ?
Are you using a "Dremel"? or other form of power drill?
If you are I would strongly suggest you try using a "PIN VISE". Much slower but much more controllable.

Many thanks for the reply Shaun, yes I did mean Micro Drill bits, and I was using a mini electric drill.

However the material is so very drill resistant, in fact I have no idea what it's made of but it is Hard?

I could do with a bit of detail please, such as what are you drilling the turret for ?
Where on the turret are you trying to drill ?
My experience with Taigen metal Turrets is that a pin vise is favourite although it will take time and you should consider using a small pilot bit perhaps an 0.8 before using the correct size bit.
I am assuming you are familier with a Pin Vise ?
If not when you first use it you will, just like everyone else wonder how you managed without,
Easy to use and totally controllable.
If you go to E-Bay they are cheap and usually come with a box of Micro-Bits.

Shaun,Basically to fit the new hinge pin assembly for the new loaders hatch, which some small humans managed to shear off!

My fault, as they were far too young to appreciate the fragility of my Tigers bits and bobs. :

Finally I did manage to bore the two holes for the retaining pins which are part of the hinge pin assembly, albeit fairly shallow holes at that after ages of trying.

Although I would of preferred to of drilled deeper I overcame the problem more or less, by shortenig the pins to fit the shallow holes, I then used a decent super glue to hold the saasembly to the turret.

And that is exactly the kind of work a Pin Vise carries out so well.
