As next was made the turret number, the german cross and of course my four-leaf clover. At vehicles with zimmerit coat I don’t use decals; they made problems during install and look not beautiful. I use stencils, self-draw and cut from adhesive film. Because of the white rim around all markings is there each stencil twice; the first bigger for the white base area and the next around 0,8 mm smaller. Both stencils have outside the same size and must be glued directly above the other. So far the theory.
Here is already the white area finished, the smaller stencil glued and around with a small tape masked.



At first follows the four-leave clover. At the previous paint was the used green too similar to used camouflage green; that’s why the clover was barely perceptible. So to speak; white eagle on white ground. This time I’ve used a flashy green.



Thereafter was then the german cross and the turret number sprayed in matt black; the color also by Tamiya. Important is to brush at each side over the outer edges.



Then the hour of truth; here left side from a distance,…



…from a short distance,…



…right side from a short distance…



…and the right side from a longer distance.



Looks good for me; still a few other pictures from the kingtiger until this point…

Be brave and try it out.
It's not so difficult as it looks. Important is a good airbrush equipment and to exercise first on a white sheet paper. And if you still have some old matchbox-cars or other toys; these are also good objects to exercise...
...and some good instructions can you find in the internet.

Thank you Herman. And believe me, with my self-made stencils is this almost an easy work step. The biggest expense is to draw the markings in a CAD program.

After painting and adding the numbers to the turret it goes on with aging. Who knows the history of this unit knows also that in Poland in august 1944 was operated in sandy terrain. Maybe I give a little history review in the next part.
Now to today’s theme; applied were all usual work steps – chipping, filtering, washing, fading and some pigments. However I must confess, some pictures were made to late so that at some pictures also the next work steps are to see.
In all three brightened base colors were little chips made, especially at the side skirts and at the turret. With dark color were thereafter made scratches into the chips and also were handles and edges colored.



In the area of the driver periscope were the dark edges good to recognize; these were later further edited.





With the washing were the deeper laying contours and also the edges highlighted; also the weld lines receive in this way more effect.







At the flaked zimmerit areas were coated with red primer…



…and also at the german cross at the right turret side.



The filtering was also applied in all three used hues.











That’s the result till this point.
