Clark Board Basic Connections

Post by silversurfer1947 »

I was brought up in a world where red was the positive connection and black the negative. I have bought a Heng Long machine gun with wiring to replace the broken one in my Matorro Jagdtiger, the wires being red and black - not a problem. What is a problem is when I want to connect it to the 8 pin connector that goes into CN9. Reading the Clark instructions, if I've got it right, I should connect the machine gun negative feed to pin 1, which has a red wire. I also understand that the machine gun positive to pin three, which has a blue wire. Is this correct? It is total anathema to me to connect red and black wires together - normally a recipe for disaster.

Richard, the red and black rule really only applies when there is two connection. After that it is all over the place. Anything more than 2 you basically have to make up your own rule.

Not forgetting that HL's are wired by the colour blind.

Pin 1 should be neg and PIN 3 pos., Richard...i.e., looking at the unit from the front with pins going from 1-8 ( l-r) . I stress the position because I found the 8-pin connector pin positions reversed relative to the 8-pin connector
in the turret. Other people have observed this too elsewhere. What's more confusing  is that other colours can be pos and neg too. To be certain, follow the colour traces to their appropriate units (turret turn, elevation etc..,). and back to the pins on the Clark board to ensure they correspond. Pin 1 Should be orange (- neg); Pin 2, should be white (common connection) also (-neg); pin three green (+pos). At the other end, 8 (red +) and 7 (black -)
go to the turret. Pins 1-3 are diodes and thus direction of flow is important..
One problem, Mato and Heng long 8- pin colours are quite different from the Taigen version; just to add to the confusion. I sorted mine by tracing paths to and from the components, irrespective of colour coding- to their correct pins on the TK22.
If it helps, I have some useful wiring diags from Licmas (Heng Long Panzer) I could post here if you'd find that useful.
Good luck,
Roy.

The problem is probably exacerbated because I am recycling the connection block from the Jagdtiger, where there was a plug connector to the upper hull and hard wiring to the control board. A a consequence, the wire colours will be reversed. I will follow the pin numbers and descriptions regardless of the colours of the individual wires and track each wire most carefully.

This should explain what goes where. The 8 pin is confusing because as has been mentioned, the pin order is reversed when it gets to the socket in the upper hull.

As long as you work from the RX18 circuits to wherever you want to go, it will all work ok.
