'New Action Man' Political correctness on the BBC

Post by NigelDerEnglander »

Hi folks,

Today on BBC news 24 I saw their article about the new Action Men that are about to be introduced.
Had a look on their web site and there was this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7978848.stm

On the TV article they had people saying that it will promote gun crime and so on.

What a load of tosh. The things that increase gun crime are the unrealistic films where the hero never gets hit by a bullet and kills his enemies with a single bullet and the similarly themed computer games where the perception that "it won't happen to me" is propagated by the same method and the fact that you can always restart the game.

And it would appear that the BBC has missed the fact that Dragon/DiD/Blue Box toys etc have been producing far more accurate 1/6 military figures for the last decade or so than the cheap, nasty ones that Hasbro appear to be re-introducing!

Good old Politically-Correct BBC getting it wrong as usual!

My 2p worth.

Once again the political correctness brigade sit in their ivory towers and tut-tut at kids toys... It never occurs to these idiots that the reason for gun crime is that the kids coming out of poorer neighbourhoods don't have a chance in hell of doing anything better with their lives!
With poor education and no jobs (because the idiots in power made sure all the manufacturing jobs were sent elsewhere!) the only way to get a chance for them to make some money and gain some respect is to get a gun and deal in drugs... Their parents probably can't even afford to buy them these kinds of toys, nevermind whether they have an influence or not!

Disgusted of Detroit...

The original action man scorpion from the late 70's was a far better looking model, this one looks more like the (UK) GI Joe knock off that I had (I seem to recall they called it a Viper - it looked like a Scorpion 90 and with a dash of M551 Sheridan thrown in...?)

political correctness indeed, while we were in ulster and Bosnia orders came down NOT to carry knives on our webbing as it was deemed as being too aggressive, but it was OK to carry an M203 a nine mili pistol and a spas 12 shotgun...... ??? ???  ???

Hi Ex_pat,

I'm afraid this may be a case of rose-tinted spectacles! I have the original Action Man Scorpion tank in my loft and it is truly awful!
:)
Plus it was early 70's! (just)
;D
On the way to a family holiday in Scotland in the mid-70's we stopped near to the border and I was bought an RC magazine to keep me occupied in the back of the car. In it was a write-up of the conversion of the Action Man Scorpion to RC. To my then unskilled eyes it looked like a lot of difficult work. But I kept the tank nevertheless with the thought of RC'ing it one day. Having got it out of the loft to show Tony (Tiger205) a year or so ago my more-skilled eyes told me it just wasn't worth it. It'd be far better to scratch build from the start!

Now that is damn funny Oz. Like something straight out of a squaddie sitcom  ;D (any TV producers reading this take note)

I've played with Action Man since i was 5 years old and the only dangerous thing it encouraged me to do was trying to make the perfect working parachute for him (I havent seen so many broken limbs since the Oct 87 hurricane :o) or super gluing my fingers together kitbashing 1/6 figure parts.

Nice to see him making a proper come back without all the dodgy licra skateboarding rubbish. I also liked one of the replys on the BBC page saying it shows the kids that guns belong in the military!

This is just the usual media hype and knee jerk govenment reaction that almost killed airsoft in this county.
You aint gettin me on no plane fool!

Hasbro are bringing out a new figure..........its illegal immigrant man, it doesn't do much, just sits outside the benefits office waiting for it to open.

The accesories available are a free flat and contents and car that doesn't need tax or insuring.

When you pull the ring in his back he speaks! choose from five useful sayings,

"I want political asylum"

"Where's my  money?"

"I need wife and seven children here"

"you have abused my human rights"

"I want a free solicitor to sue you"

Yours for a reasonable 19k per annum (wife figure and kids are available for a further 20k, be the envy of your neighbours and collect them all.
