Jagdpanther Tracks
Jagdpanther Tracks
I've had a problem like a few others on the forum where my Jagdpanther tracks kept coming off. I was fitting the new skirts on yesterday and as there was no instructions I was looking at some line drawings and photos to guestimate where the brackets should be placed, when I noticed my rear idler looked different to the drawings. It then clicked that the rear idler sits between the track guide horns not as mine were with the rear guide horns running through the rear idler, which is how they can out of the box. I corrected this and took it out for a spin and as if by magic track problems solved.
This could have been just mine but for others with Jagdpanther track dramas it might be worth a check.

Hi Dave its a good point you have come up with just because it came like that dosnt make it the correct.
First thing to check if any track keeps comming off is the alinement of the the sprocket and all the wheels and rear idler .The best way to do this is turn the tank over and look down from front to rear and from rear to front line of sight to see if there are any wheels out of line .
If there are no wheels out of line then put the track, on first lay the track flat and run the tank down it if there is no sign of it jumping then continue to fit it first the sprocket then the rear idler and pull it forward over return rollers if fitted to the sprocket then connect to the other part of track.
The tension of tracks is one part that comes in for a lot of debate some say slack tracks are better others say tight tracks are better. One thing that does happen is if the tracks are to slack they will jump the sprocket .

Re: Jagdpanther Tracks
Tamiya Panther/Jagdpanthers are known for track problems. Its more to do with the drive sprockets. Contact Tamiya and they will send you new sprockets
Re: Jagdpanther Tracks
It's not just Jagd/Panthers.
I bought a 2nd hand "faulty" King Tiger off ebay. The fault was the tracks had been put on the idler wheeels wrong casuing the tracks to twist. This put too much stain on the drive train and it would stop after a couple of inches. Tank ran perfectly once I'd put the tracks on correctley.

Hi! I've gone thru the website of Tamiya USA and Japan, and can't find anything that will point me in the direction as to getting new drive sprockets for my Jagd. Do I just email them and tell them I recently purchased one and would like to request the corrected drive sprockets? Appreciate whatever help you can extend. Thanks in advance!Thomasjohnmurphy wrote: Tamiya Panther/Jagdpanthers are known for track problems. Its more to do with the drive sprockets. Contact Tamiya and they will send you new sprockets
Re: Jagdpanther Tracks
The original Panther had a faulty sprocket that caused the track to jump off. Tam fixed the problem made a new sprocket. The Jagdpanther and all new Panthers all have the new improved sprocket.
