Panther Paint job/build from wheels up

Post by mitchell »

Progress on the Panther build is coming along. I use the same philosophy when building a tank as i do when buying my next car, if its got a good solid body based on decent materials then you can't go wrong

With that in mind I'm building it round an RCtankde chassis, its solid and has good strength in all the right places. eg - thick sloping metal frontal hull, which is strong enough to be a lifting point. Its a good starting point to build a tank round, and has a company stamp into the chassis, so they must be pretty proud of it.

I'm trying to replicate the paint job on one of their models, just about done on the wheeels and about to move onto the chassis -

Quite impressed with the quality of these Taigen road wheels, bearings in each one and quite weighty, I've gave the tyres a light dusting to offset the shiny rubber. I've done the tracks too, i'll try to slot in a pic or two. I've really been looking forward to starting on this build. I think she's going to be a big heavy girl when she's finished :haha:

Nice, tidy work. Keep us informed and let us know some of the details. For example, what paints did you use on these road wheels? Nice look to them.

Its going to be combinations of the 3 main late camo colours - Dunkelgelb, Resedagrun and Schokobraun

There's some nice detail in these Panther hulls,

I was thinking about using the blue tac method for outlining the camo pattern

I completely forgot about this thread :) I've actually almost finished the tank. No I remember, I was trying to fix the tracks and sprockets, and waiting for parts to arrive, hence why the build stalled. I'll get some pics of my progress up soon

Keep the pics coming.. we like pics! :D

I've got one of the RCTank Panthers, I managed to get the metal tracks/wheels/sprockets and all accessories version at a good price, but they don't seem to do that version any more, they are built like a barn door, and it is probably the only tank I have ever owned that never needs any ongoing maintenance, I just run it and put it back on the shelf, they are solid as it gets. It has an Elmod Fusion Eco board in it, so it sounds and goes as nicely as it looks.

It's good to have a set up that's dependable like that. My metal edition Tiger is like that, unlike the others which need maintanence regularly it thrives on the bare minimum
