The story behind Slapton Sands is truly fascinating, I've stayed there and seen the Sherman. I can remember the news item from when it was dragged out of the sea.

There was a documentary on the whole tragic event, and there are locals who can remember an entire armoured column being buried in a trench for use after any invasion that might have occurred, but no one can remember where the ditch is. The whole area was evacuated while the rehearsals were going on.

I read the story a few years ago and never thought that I would ever get chance to see it but like I say the owner of THE GREAT WESTON HOTEL in Paignton who was a friend took us he used to have a boat on the lake behind the beach and go fishing there it's just a shame we only knew each other for a year then he passed away but his wife still runs the Hotel
last time we were there people were taking stones away in little bags maybe as a reminder of some one

as an aside I'm ex R A O C we had plenty of real Tanks across the road from and in our Depot in Germany I just wish I had saved the early photos
