Back with an Elefant again

Post by Spartan tracks »

Well I have bought tank number 18 back with another Elefant, My previous Elefant Wasnt actually built by me but had seen a fair amount of use before I got hold of it and was starting to fall to bits,
Well me Being a fussy old OCD sod I thought I'd start from scratch with a new kit so I could build how I wanted it, Anyway there should be 2 more tanks here this week JPand PZ4 and when these are done it will be time to STOP and take them all apart and 1 by 1 remove the internals and change them to how I want them IE bords ,speakers, motors etc

Spartan,
Good morning,
It's always more fun when it's yours and you've built it yourself. Looking forward to your work. I'm currently considering the metal suspensions for sale on RCTank.de for this beast.
regards,
Painless

Be careful painless you'll be needing the tracks, sprockets, idlers and ideally chris aluminium tub if you go that route. The hooben tracks guide horns don't fit the Asiatam suspension very well, also the Asiatam suspension doesn't fit the hooben tub without modification.

Hey Andy, the elefant you had off Ian had some suspension mods and imo was one of the better running ones I've seen, if you do go stock I would recommend doing these to yours. The problem even with modified ones is the suspension needs constant maintainence as the screws even when thread locked do come loose, this was the reason I bought all the asiatam stuff for mine. In the end I realised it was easier to get the asiatam elefant which despite its faults was more robust. However with the chassis chris Ludwig does you can use the asiatam running gear whilst keeping the nicely detailed hooben upper.

I may go that root TOM I'm unsure on how much the metal Tub is ,I'm guessing around £250 mark it would be nice to do a mainly metal Elefant in keeping with my other tanks Ill try and keep as much metal as possible but that may not be possible we will see.
Tom regarding Ian's old one I personaly didn't think it drove that well, I'm sure it was probably down to my radio and that every 2 mins I was pushing tracks pins in,also every time you went over a rough area the upper hull dislodged.
We will see how the new one turns out ,then I can tell for myself and compare the old with the new as they say.

Spartan,
Just a moment more if you would, a couple more questions for Tom regarding the suitability of metal upgrades for this kit: Quote: "Be careful painless you'll be needing the tracks, sprockets, idlers and ideally chris aluminium tub if you go that route. The hooben tracks guide horns don't fit the Asiatam suspension very well, also the Asiatam suspension doesn't fit the hooben tub without modification." Tom, will the Asiatam suspension work with the metal tracks advertised by Impact(?) and will the stock metal sprockets and idlers work with those metal tracks?

The tub it's self is £55 ish depending on exchange rates. If the suspension was working at all and it wasn't throwing tracks left right and centre it was doing well compared to the stock offering. The track pins comming out seems to be common issue with the plastic tracks, it can be improved with shoe goo glue (I wouldn't advise super glue). The top was always a pain, as you had to get two Allen bolts out to remove it, magnets might work well in this case. Good luck with the build.

Hi Andy,
good to hear you are back on the tanks.
I will be interested to see and hear how this build goes. I have one of these in the box waiting to be started.
I was thinking of the ASP2 for the electronics and was going to see how it went with stock suspension and plastic tracks before any mods.
Thumbs up for the magnets Tom. o-

I'm in no rush to build it as working on my T 34 and waiting on 2 other tanks, then I'll make a start, but I have ordered a Elmod Board, and some jp400 motors for it, so I have kind of made a start.
