erm yes there is a clique and any new member that joins and posts is part of it  ;D ;D ;D ;D

seriously this forum/club was suggested by a few of us back in the day of cough ar c u

as we all got fed up of the constant whinening from a few about H/Long tanks and the like so between us we all created this and one member matt brought us this forum now for a 15 year old this is a major achievement and hats off to him for all his hard work and efforts

so with that the club/forum was born a club for tankers run by tankers

we dont have any major rules just have fun and try and help each other the best you can if you can

none of us here are experts just dedicated hobbyists some with more skills in certain areas than others

the amount of mods we have is as mart pointed out we get more than our fair share of naughty people to deal with wanting to bless the walls with ads for viagara and naked ladies pimping there wares as this is a family site (I know my 10 yr old is a member here) dont fancy him getting an eyefull of that

did you know we havent even been going a year yet :o :o :o

and look what we have already a damn good forum some of the best tankers in the world (you guys)
and a club thats growing all the time ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

maybe its just since people mentioned it i have been looking for it and haven't been looking at the bigger picture, hopefully the guys have read this thread and will change their minds about us and what we do........hopefully.

My post was a prophecy that came true, most if not all the sites I have ever been on have gone this way even sites not related to tanks this just seems to be part of human nature and is very hard to avoid, how does it start?, don't ask me it just naturally happens and each time for a completely different reason, how do we stop it?, that is the £1000,000 question.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Interesting thread.

To this point in time, I cannot say I have detected anything like a 'clique' showing up on this site. Have I run into it on other forums? Absolutely! How does it start? Haven't a clue, but it does become apparent over time that a select few eventually dominate a forum. You start to notice a heavy communication flow among them and the contributions of others get little interaction or support.

I do wonder if statistics have anything to do with it. Most, if not all forums rely heavily on visible statistics. How many posts have contributors/members made? How many threads do we have? How many people have read this thread? How many people have replied?  There may be very valid administrative reasons for gathering this type of information, but does all of it have to be so visible? I wonder. Is someone with 12,844 posts a genius or a babbling, crap tap? Is someone with 8 posts a twit? How many new people to a forum find it a bit intimidating to see members with a lot of posts and may be reluctant to dive in? Could the playing field be seen to be more level? Do we really need title rewards for our number of contributions, or should our common love of the thing that brings us all together be enough for us?

Winston Churchill once took a lot of heat from the newspapers in his constituency when he first entered the House of Commons because he seldom got up in the House to discuss any issues. He replied to this by saying it was far better to say nothing and be thought a fool, than to say something and prove it.

Not sure if I have strayed off the mark on this topic or not, but so far so good for this forum.

I hope Im ok in putting a post on here  ;D

Tony had quite a definate point of view on this, having been on the receiving end of more than a few snobby remarks on RCU because he had done so much to a HL tiger, (shock, horror!!! I dont care about naming and shaming guys, sorry if it offends!) he was ALWAYS determined that nothing like this would ever happen as long as he could do something about it. So he consciously made a point of welcoming everyone and also when people posted about work they were undertaking on their models, that was always another must for him, to add a comment to their thread. He loved doing little things to help people and offer his support wherever he could. The thing is people are all different and some will naturally find themselves getting on better with some than they do with others, but so long as you dont try to impose your point of view over others, accept that everyone has their own way of doing things, seeing things and their opinion, (live and let live was the phrase he used) then a clique will never happen. This forum was like a home to him, he loved being on here, he valued his position of trust and if you guys can keep it like it is then it will be a great tribute to him.

Hi There it depends what you call a clique is it the guys who went to the first meeting at Bovington ,There is a bond between the guys who have seen each other yes we send P.Ms to each other yes we are friends but a (clique)I dont think so .
Most of the guys who went all started on RCU most of us had our P.Ms stopped on RCU does this make a clique dont think so ,all we were trying to do was get a club/forum for U.K. tankers ,where we could help each other and make a hobby more fun.I have allways tried to help others and other people have helped me.Yes there are members who do not post but there are different reasons why they dont ,My grandson is a member he has never made a post but he looks in to see whats going on he is 13 and for that reason we need to keep the site clear of things that dont belong, the only thing I have had to remove from this forum was a member that turned out to be a pornsite.
The reason for the Moderators is to keep the site safe and I think this has been done, the reason for the number of moderators is that hopfully there will be one on line most of the time. Not only to keep the site safe but to help Members .
Rivetcounter has said that a clique or cliques will form this again will be a point of veiw, will it be that members from one area will be a clique or is it there friends.
So it all depends on your point of veiw are you on the outside looking in or the inside looking out ,so if your on the outside looking in come in and have a chat ,if your on the inside looking out get your tank charged and come and play .
So if your a member and dont want to post but need help send me a P.M. if I dont know the answer I will find it for you .

            Regards Pete

P.S. Alison Im the Guy who sent Tony a P.M. on Panzerketten telling him about this forum and asking him to join
The Best P.M. I have ever Sent.

Hi Alison.
I'm still in shock over Tony,I find it hard even now to set here and write this.I have to tell you the last few days I have not been able to set here without some tears welling up in my eyes. That is the impression Tony had made on me.This may seem kind of strange coming from a guy who has never met your husband and not even seen his picture until today. (I'm not a kid,I'm 66 years old and my oldest daughter is Tony's age ).All I know is he was allways nice to me and beyond the hobby's here on the forum, from some of his replys to my posts we had a lot of other things in common. From the replys you have seen here from the members he was well liked and was considered not only a member but our friend.I hope in some small way this will help you through these troubled times knowing how we felt about Tony.             Larry

I feel asured that Tony wants us to carry on and make this forum grow.He was a big, big, part of what it is today.I know me and Tony came here around the same time (around 30 members) and like a big share of us here had all known each other by member names from other forums (hobby havoc--RCU ).We all had our own reasons for making this our "home" and a lot of us still visit and even post on other forum's.
For me this is my home and although living accross the big pond and thousands of miles away,I have been made to feel at home here.I have said many times here that this forum is different from any other forum of it's type,I have not seen anything that will compare.I find a lot of pleasure seeing how this forum has started to grow and all the activity that is now starting to take place."All" the members is what makes a forum, this would not be possible with just a handfull of people.
I do look at the "stats" quite often myself, just for general knoweledge of how the forum is going.Other than that for me it don't have much meaning. We all have to THANK--Matt for what we all have to enjoy here today and allowing this forum to expand with a varity of topics that we have here today. This is the "key Factor" that will make this "unique" and different from most of the Hobby forums that you will find. All you have to do is look around at some of the forums that guys have tried to start.Try and start one specific Hobby forum--tanks  or  boats  or  airplanes  or  cars  or  helicopters-----------And you will see what happens.A few guys post and then nothing---And this has even been tried by hobby shops
and still failed.A lesson to be learned by this is simple facts--A hobby shop that deals in only one specific product or hobby item is not going to be around long. You will find more members here who have done a varity of hobby's than you will finding those with just one.(unless they are very young members)
My problem is I like them all,and like to bounce back and forth between them so I don't burn out.For me I may be working on one hobby model at a specific time(lets say a boat ) but I still like to go look through what other guys are building, and on this forum it's right here at the click of a mouse.I don't have to go into some other section and feel like I'm starting all over again.

Now the modds---Some of us have some fancy titles that if you know anything about this forum you can figure out they don't realy mean all that much realy--- ;D ;D Are we all proud to have those titles,if
everyone else is like me the answer is "YES".Now in my case it was awarded for one basic simple fact--
---MY LOCATION and TIME ZONE---It's not because I'm a master builder,an electrical gu-ru,or a mister trouble shooter expert. It was the time zone and I hope the fact that Matt felt he could trust me to be fair to all the members.A forum has to have helpers to keep and eye out for potential problems that will hurt the forum or offend it's members. We are all just members here like everyone else mostly doing our own thing and having fun posting what we are working on.We do have the power to instantly pull any thing that is not suitable for the forum and we can block a member if needed.I guess we can even move a post if needed.I have pulled one post (a Nasty cartoon around X-mas time)and blocked some spammers
until the extermanator could send them off into space.Really not much of a story for having the fancy title --intolerator-- ;D ;D   Now with that said I hope Matt dosen't demote me because my head is still swelled up from having that neat title. ;D

So for any new potential member who is looking for a friendly place, rest assured if you are a hobby guy or gal and want to post and talk about your hobby----------We will try our best to make you feel welcome and feel at home. ;D ;D

And we do like to say hello and welcome to the members who make their first post to help brake the ice for them when they come on board. ;D ;D ;D

Just my own opinion   ;D ;D                Best reguards          BIGMIG                         Larry

P.S.  it is now 4:30 AM so I think I'll get some sleep--- ;D

i hope there was not a problem in me mentioning this as it was a genuine concern of mine, i was reading some of the older posts ( mackem are we too nice ) and it was rivet,s comment about things sounding a bit cliquey and my stupid remark that got me thinking about this, he wasn't the first to say it more like the 8th or 9th ( by the way rivet i removed my stupid and immature remark about how its spelled, sorry! ).
and as for David's post i absolutely agree with what he says plus he made some great observations, a couple of members on here did secretly voice their fears but didn't want to rock the boat, i must admit i felt a little bit unsure on joining this site myself when you have titles like field Marshall galactic moderator and the like, but once i joined found it nothing but very friendly and helpful.
some of you may think i was just trying to stir things up but i had a genuine concern about this and the only way to find an answer to a question is to ask even if it means rocking the proverbial boat.
and when i come too a meet i,ll make sure i,m wearing my old set of assault body armour......... ;D
