since being a member of this site for the last few months and a couple of other RC forums as well i have received 11 emails from different people over the months about some of the stuff i do, i keep in touch with the guys and one girl who who have contacted me on my new projects and their new projects too, i have told them to join our little site as in my opinion its the best around, but five of them said although they like looking in on a regular basis wont join because they find there is a definite click or clique on here, two stated they have not seen a site with so many moderators on it before, so am i missing something or is it just sour grapes from a couple of forums about us being the new kid on the block.........
( to the guys who emailed me about my stuff please don't take the sour grapes bit the wrong way )

on the "too many moderators" point I have to say that it is vary rare that we have to take action - this forum is pretty much self governing - and all we really do is kick out the spammers.
I'd go back to them and suggest they should judge the forum by the actions of the admin staff, and not by their numbers. The reason we have so many is that the original admin team have been overloaded in the past, and we need to have a constant presence to keep scum out and protect the forum and its members - nothing more sinsiter than that...

I must admit that I felt a little bit like that there was a clique going here until Matt, Rob, Larry and Tony (especially - RIP  :'( ) welcomed me in. But here I am, with over 5x more posts on this site than the rest of the internet put together... (or maybe I just joined the clique ??? )

I think in 4 months of being an admin here I have only had to intervene once, and I've never had to ban a genuine user (tho a couple of times I must confess to deleting a new account or 2 that turned out to be genuine - oppsie! :-[ - I didn't ban them so they were able to come back and re-register - no blood, no foul, right?? :-[ )

I don't know how some people take the "who's online" section, but as a RCU vet, I'd sooner hang out on a forum with a constant admin prescence than a 'free for all, bash anybody in sight 'cos nobody's looking' kind of environment...

Personally, I don't care how many mods we have, it hasn't been a problem as far as I can see. As far as cliques go, where? when? I like to think I'm reasonably clued in but I have never felt there are any "special" little groups on here. There are always going to be friendships formed mainly by locality to each other but so what?

I have been a member here since late last year and have never felt as though I don't belong or am less important a contributor than anyone else. To be honest I'm still a member of RCU as are a lot of us but I prefer this site. I like the format and the fact its mainly (though not exclusively) for the Brit tanker. Its more informal (a personal observation) and a lot friendlier. People should give it a chance and then make an informed decision afterwards if they want.

We have a varied range of age and experience, I'm an old git getting back into the hobby now I'm retired and have never felt looked down upon or inferior when I ask for help so where these cliques are God only knows.

I think it shows what kind of club we are when see the comments left by members after Tony's passing. I'm happy here and long may it reign.

Personally I welcome loads of mods. I've seen a good forum decend into one man's private domain where you dare post anything in case you encourage the masters wrath ::)

This is the most easy going place i've joined. Dont really think there's is a clicke as such. Obviously some regular posting members will get to know each other and their sences of humour, but i've always felt welcome if i jump into a thread.
You aint gettin me on no plane fool!

and so you should Crispy! :D

i dont think there is a "clique" , i know that if there was one, i probably wouldnt realise, becuase being the admin id prob be part of it ... but then again if i was then id know about it because of what a "clinque" does ...

compared to other forums such as the one that shall not be named, i think we are quite an easy going community, and that all new members are welcomed in easily! :D thats why we have a specific for new members to be welcomed into ! :D

This forum was designed to be a forum where we all are easy going, where 'newbies' are just as welcome and valued as 'experts'. The whole reason this forum was created was because we got fed up with the downlook on less experienced and handy people on other fourms such as the one that shall not be named.

if there was a "clique" on the forum, then please could somebody pm me or a mod (ther's plenty of e'm after all LOL :D ) and it will be sorted out :D

the reason that there are an abundence of mods on this forum, is because we have had a flow (more of a dam break flow) of spammers signing up to the forum, and well... spamming!
So if somebody thinks there are too many mods, then first they should think what would they rather,
1. a clean and friendly forum, where everything is in order and good willed, but with lots of mod's
OR
2. a forum full of spammer and no-good-doers and not many mods ?

well, this id just my 1p's worth, and i certainly would like to think that is somebody does see a "clinque" that i would be told, and would immediatly dispand it ...

cheers,

Matt

Just over 5 years ago there was a meeting at "Stony Clouds" in Nottingham, this was the first meet of a new club people of like minds that had met on a forum and wanted there own club forum based at first very much like you have hear well in fact exactly like you have hear, in the first year we had 5-6 of our own meets and attended 3-4 events this grew over a few years to a point where we attend shows all year around sometimes there are two shows on the same day or weekend in different parts of the country sometimes a show every weekend in a month, at this very first meet a wise former member who still attends the odd meet made a prediction that has come true and is true of every club and every forum, "Give it time Bob, and a clique will form"
They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
