Nashorn build with all 3d printed parts - New project

Hi Alwyn , The Panzer 4 chassis is a good runner indoors or on a smooth surface , but on grass or carpet ,the suspension arms on the boggies can catch on the grass or carpet fibres ,if you put radius on the arms at the front it can help when going forwards ,but the springs sticking of the rear will catch going backwards, havnt seen anyone come up with the answer to this problem,(might be why you don't see many at battle meetings),Look forward to watching your build ,glad to here the minister of finance has agreed to a budget for you (plus you can still save money in a slush fund LOL)

Hi Pete, thanks for the warning on the suspension, yet another item to add to my list of things needing a solution. I noticed the springs as I was working on the chassis and thought at the time that it looked like, shall I say, an unesthetic design approach (i.e. daft)! There has to be a better solution to that - I'll give it some thought. Yes the slush fund approach will still be maintained but don't tell the boss or I could wind up getting kneecapped!

Got these from the site Rob posted, they give lots of detail which will be useful for my build. The front of the nashorn is significantly higher than the Panzer 4 so no problems in clearing the gearbox and the front lower glacis is also higher.

Modified the front of the hull to raise lower glacis and modify the tow points from Panzer IV to Nashorn

There is now plenty of space to raise the gearboxes if needed but after reviewing the pics I think the positioning is about right, might be a few mm low but not enough to warrant stripping everything and building new mounts.

I've decided on the camo colour scheme for my Nashorn. I thought of two options which were the eastern front white/grey or the one I've found on the Achtunpanzer site, and prefer the more colourful version:

Can anyone tell me what the corresponding tamiya (or other) colour codes are for the yellow/green/red please?

I know that there are plenty out there with their own custom blends for paint colors. But, Tamiya seems to do a decent job with their recommended colors and blends. I've been using their model instructions and suggested blends for my work (limited as it is).

A busy day but lots of progress.
Started by fitting panzer 3 transmission covers

Then started on the upper hull, with the front glacis

Put the track covers on, built the rear lower hull and added the back panel



Built the upper hull sides and front and reinforced the internal structure




Lots more to do but it's already recognisable!!!
