Hi SpartanTracks, I am no airbrush expert but I did buy initially acompressor with no air tank - big mistake because I just couldn't make it work. I have purchased a more effective airbrush which has an air tank and humidity trap but haven't so far got round to using it (been a bit busy and travelling as well).

have a look at this thread (I think you initiated it) as there were some contributions and advice from some very experienced tank enthusiasts.

Hope that helps.

Andy I use a compressor that I bought at Sears years ago. It has a regulator so I can adjust pressure and an inline water trap on the airbrush hose.

Just to say that the Ebay style compressors work better at low pressure. The problem with running them at high pressure is that the pump activates as soon as the pressure drops, and causes constant pressure changes. Running at 15-20psi makes them run a lot smoother, as soon as the pump starts running stop spraying for second while the pressure builds back up.

The best compressor I ever used was one that somebody got off his dentist. It was quite big and complex but precision built, with an airtank and flawless air supply. No water getting into the mix either. It was unbelievable what a difference it made to airbrushing!
