Kv2 recoil unit.

Post by Model Builder 4 »

Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of help diagnosing a problem with my kv2 barrel recoil. I'm in the middle of a refurb with it so want to make sure everything's good before it all goes back together. I've added a picture of the unit which is for the recoil and elevation, are these units tank specific or are they all the same if they are this type of unit ? I know you can get different types of units because this is different to all my other tanks. It did work when I first managed to fire the ibu2 up ( this was posted in another thread ) but now it does not work Image the elevation still works but no recoil, I've even put standard taigen electronics in it but still nothing only elevation, is there a way of testing before I go looking for a new unit ? I don't want to get one if it's down to wiring or something,

It's Taigen's generic recoil/elevation unit, it'd be the same regardless of the model. There was actually a thread about it very recently, could be a similar issue.

Good morning Raminator,

I also came across that thread, unfortunately all wires seem to be securely in place. There is no movement at all now from the recoil unit or even a sound of it trying to work  I did have similar issues with it as mentioned in the other thread when it was somewhat working on the ibu2, ie only moving a little and then not returning, that's why I've connected it back up to the standard taigen electronics but it's still having none of it :(

Cheers, Lee.

I've attached a pic of the wiring and the taigen unit I'm trying to get it working with, some of the wires and maybe pins have been modified before I received it as it was running an ibu2 but I didn't have much luck getting it running on that . Everything works except the recoil, you can see a 2 pin plug but I'm not sure which socket this goes into as there is no obvious place for it, these wires come from the switch on top of the recoil unit which looks like it's the power for it , the only 2 pin sockets on there is for the smoker which I'm not running. The other 3 pin plug not connected in the pic is for the ir socket, any ideas or help would be very much appreciated,

You might need to switch some pins around, Lee. I think I had to redo some of them when I tried to use one of these units with an IBU2, so if it's come off an IBU they may be in a different order.

If memory serves there's a three-pin plug (which has a combined positive for the two motors, and a negative for each of them), a two-pin plug (that interfaces with the flash unit), and two loose wires for an on/off switch. What order are the wires in the three-pin plug?

These are the pins that I think the problems are with, the 2 pin plug is coming from the contact switch on top of the unit, the 3 pin plug is coming from the flash unit and the five pin plug is coming from under the recoil unit and i think it's for the motors, the five pin plug will only work in the outer most socket so that leaves the 5 pin socket in the centre ?

Cheers, Lee.
